Artisan Crafts Week
Hello! My name is Chris Kapono aka MandarinMoon and I am probably best known for my work with polymer clay. I use it to make jewelry, mosaic and found object tiles, unique boxes, dragon eggs and journal covers.
If you have not yet worked with polymer clay, journal covers are a great first project. In this tutorial, I will guide you through the steps to make your own unique journal or sketchbook cover. After working with polymer clay you will begin to realize it's potential and versatility!
Let's begin with a list of tools and supplies you will need for this project:
Hardcover blank journal or sketchbook (the book I am
I have been thinking of getting back to my artistic roots which is drawing. I have this idea of creating some adult coloring books and was initially going to begin drawing them by hand the old fashioned way. You know...pen on paper. :) Then it occurred to me that, since my idea will be creating patterns with repetitions of the same item or group of items, that it may be a better idea to create them on a tablet. Then I can enlarge, reduce, duplicate or change the direction of say, a flower that I have drawn. No tracing or erasing and worrying about smudges or spilling my coffee on the paper.
Trouble is...I am completely clueless regarding tab

I have a question to those of you that may be more savvy with regards to facebook. :) I just noticed that people are adding their name to some of the photos I post on my fan page. They are not tagging the photo (where you hover over a face in a photo and that person's name appears) You see my photo and my description of it and then, right after my caption, it will say "with Gardenia Monoi" or some other name and it is a link to their page. Some of my photos had upwards of 19 names! It appears in the post not in the comments section! I just deleted a slew of them and it was nearly all of my most popular posts. When they do this it looks as if
Oh my gosh, I don't even know where to start. I made the mistake of checking the web for piracy of my art, especially on iphone cases and now I am steamed. I don't even know where to start. It is mainly one image that everyone is using and it appears to be the same exact section of one of my tiles that they are all using. It's as though they were all coming from one source but I have no idea of how to track down the source. Alibaba perhaps?
Every time I find someone using the image on items they are selling, I contact them and ask them to remove it. Sometimes they do but most of the time they don't.
I have found them on Artfire, Etsy, Hey
I have just been approached by PicsaStock to license some of my images. Has anyone ever heard of them? I would be compensated every time someone bought one of my images but I have had so many different people/companies use them without my permission that I worry about actually allowing someone to sell them. How would I know who paid for the right and who is outright stealing? I am also not sure why someone would want to buy the right to use an image of one of my journals etc. Now if I photographed landscapes, sunsets, animals or people that would be one thing. What are your thoughts or experiences with licensing images?

In other news, I recently drove from San Francisco, CA to my hometown of Creve Coeur, MO with my son who is moving back in town. We drove through California (of course :)), Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa and down into Missouri. Whew, that was the farthest I have ever driven but we had a wonderful time. I was really struck by how beautiful Wyoming is and I wish I had taken more photos.
We had my son's two cats in the car a
You have to check out my co=workers new Etsy shop. He makes the most detailed miniature houses from cardboard and other re=cycled matericals. They are truly amazing. He even creates the landscape around them. I was blown away the first time he brought some of them in. He has just begun listing them on Etsy and there are many more to come.

In other news :D I have just completed a tutorial on ClayLessons.com http://www.claylessons.com/ for this journal :thumb326054763: :thumb326056487:
Good grief, what a job that was!
A fellow deviant was kind enough to alert me to a seller on Etsy that was offering iphone cases with some of my images. They offered cases using these two photos :thumb166006582: and :thumb131859880: I contacted the seller and told them that I owned the copyright to the art they were using and asked them to remove the listings immediately. Their reply was rude and ended with them telling me to f**k off. I was HOT!
The good news is that they did remove the listings....the bad news is that I did a google image search and found that these very same cases are being sold elsewhere online! Here are links to a few of them
I am so excited to be featured in the upcoming issue of The Polymer Arts magazine in the Emerging Artists Gallery. :woohoo: :thumb317713505: Here is a link to the magazine's site http://www.thepolymerarts.com/ It is a wonderful resource for inspiration, tips and articles by some of the leading polymer artists.
It's all about timing-
I made seven necklaces for a bride who wanted custom 'bubble' necklaces in colors to match her bridesmaid's dresses. When they were finished I was trying to think of a way to photograph all of them together without looking like a jumbled mess. :D I came up with the arrangement in this photo :thumb316151546: and
I have just discovered something interesting and I was wondering if any of you have ever used it. It is called Apoxie Sculpt and apparently you can get incredible detail with it and it cures without heat. I am intrigued but before I buy it I was curious to see what you all had to say about it. If you have used it and have posted photos here of what you made with it, please send me a link as I would love to see what you have done!
In other news :D I will be featured in an upcoming issue of The Polymer Arts magazine! I am so excited! Now I have to come up with a decent head shot for the article....ugh! Equally exciting is that I have also been
