Roots and leaf journal by MandarinMoon Roots and leaf journal by MandarinMoon
A small journal decorated with polymer clay and glass gems. The book was painted in acrylics and four separate polymer clay pieces were attached.

I'm so frustrated, I can't get a good photo of it....aarrgh! I'm waiting for my camera to recharge and I will try again.

Its beautiful. I especially love the way you incorperated the gems and the roots look so realistic.

I know that in order for polymer clay to harden, it must be baked in an oven. Did you bake it seperately from the journal, or was it safe to bake the journal with it? Sorry if this question seems stupid, I'm just very new to polymer clay workings.

Thank you! I do bake the clay piece separately and adhere it to the book cover when it is ready. I've tried baking directly on the book with mixed, and sometimes disastrous, results. :)

OH MY GOD. I've been looking for something like this in stores (online and real life) :( do you think you could make a tutorial some day? And how did you get the clay to stay on so nicely? O: You have some serious talent!!!! It's so beautiful!

Thank you! I am actually working on a tutorial on how to decorate journal covers but it will be how to completely cover the front and back where this one leaves much of the surface of the book showing.
It is rather easy, you should give it a try! Have you ever worked with clay before?

No problem at all! Your work is absolutely lovely!
Yay!! I'm so excited (: I will definitely be the first to check it out when you finish!
I think I will try! You inspired me lol ^__^ and yeah, just a few times though. Do you paint before or after you bake the clay?

If I am going to paint any part of it, I usually do this after it is cured. I did recently re-bake something that I had made because I was altering it a bit. It had a wash of acrylic paint on it and it did fine in the oven. I was really worried!
