Chapter 15: A Nightmare To Remember
'I keep shaking him, he's not waking up!'
'There's something wrong here. Rob, can you hear me? Rob, speak to us!'
'Is he supposed to be breathing this slowly?!'
'He is asleep... but... there's something wrong. Call somebody.'
'What? Who?! Kyle?'
'Why not?'
'What's Kyle going to do about this?! I- You know what, I'm going to call a medic. Maybe Dr. Richardson, he's helped Rob before.'
'I don't think that's how doctor's rotas wor-'
'Shut up, Lewis! Call a doctor! He should definitely be awake by now!'
'...I'm on it. Try and keep him... Make sure that he's... Just don't let him die while I'm gone, ok?'
'I've definitely heard you say that more times than I should have at my age. I'll do what I can. …Come on, you stupid snake. This had better just be some stress-related nightmare thing.'
At the end of the bed, The Thing appeared to be trembling in its suitcase.

Chapter 14: Business Calls
'You didn't even stop to think about it!'
'That's because it's a stupid idea.' The Heracross flicked through a few more pages and made a note on a piece of paper. It didn't say anything, but he just wanted to annoy his guest. 'Are you quite done? I've got important things to be doing.'
'Have you really?!' A Zoroark's mane should just be long, inanimate strands of hair, but this one's was bristling like it had been attached to a mains supply. 'You're sat here doing nothing while everything happens around you! What are you, Matthew the Tauros? At least I've been proactive!'
The Heracross rolled his eyes. 'Oh yes, Zoroark, do tell me how that worked out for you. You got beaten up by a child. Perfect. Have you told Skarmory yet? Have you? If not, you should. And record it too, so I can fall asleep to it every night.'
Zoroark snarled. It was a good snarl - every canine was visible. 'I didn't know he wa

Chapter 13: The Thing In Lewis' Suitcase
'Well then. I see you've met The Thing.'
I couldn't say anything. My mind was still a shaken mess from that experience, and now I was here, and as Lewis and Nicole looked down at me like judges my internal shame and self-blame were both vying for my attention. I'd done it. I can't believe I was so stupid. And now I was here and I was staring at the floor trying to think what had possessed me to think this was a good idea. How could I possibly get out of this? I had only been curious... I...
I couldn't really get out. The heavy hand was on my mind that weaselling was the wrong approach to this. It was a time to face the music. I hate that feeling. I wanted to slink away.
The only reason I hadn't turned around was because then I'd have to look at that box, and I'd rather eat paint before I let it scare me like that again.
Oh. It turns out I'm going to have to lead. Slowly, I ra

Chapter 12: Respite and Regather
It felt like a long way back to Room 394. Not much was said between us - what do you say? I certainly had a lot to think about. Lewis walking beside me was a source of silent encouragement, a reminder that I wasn't alone in what had just happened. But then, I could remember only too vividly when that presence had been turned against me as well. But I had survived that. I mean, I was still here. I could survive this too, right? It wasn't so bad... in comparison...
...Who am I kidding? It was just bad in different ways. I knew I was alright. What worried me, was stuck somewhere deep down, was - is Charmeleon going to be alright?
Could he really ever be?
We may have fallen into a sullen mood on our way home, but the tone shift issue on getting back was thankfully answered for us as the door to our room slid open, and our troubled faces were met at the door by Nicole standing there

Hot Coffee
Hot Coffee (or, Everything I Know About Time Travel I Learned From The Internet)
Astro Layssen sat back at the table in the bustling coffee house and wondered how many times he'd been here already.
You always like to imagine that your favourites never change, but of course the rose-tinted glasses can hide the details. The photo on the wall, for instance, showed an open viewscape of fields of coffee beans, instead of the old black-and-white shot of two people (who had probably never met each other before) laughing as old friends over steaming cups that he remembered them putting in later. The striking new red and orange fabric had not yet been brought in to replace to old and patched upholstery. The extremely harassed-looking barista-waiter was definitely a retro addition. Someone shouted in the corner for two vanilla americanos and Astro smiled. Details come and go, you can't avoid that - but the soul of the place hadn't changed. Just like he remembered.
He took a deep drink of

Experiment - Multi-Authored Poetry
Passing by, you light up my darkest sky
Going away, driving on a Saturday night.
Don't believe me if I tell you,
I caught you smiling at me
I see the moon, a million stars are out tonight.
Disenchanted lullabies,
I, I wish I could swim
I wake up every evening
I never thought that I was so blind.
Well, guess who just got back today
It's been such a long time
Every time I see you, something happens to me.
Goodbye, Norma Jean,
It's coming out all around the world
I get up, and nothing gets me down.
Can't you understand me
Dustland fairytale beginning
If I could ride this line into forever
Good and bad, I swear I've had them both
Hit my snooze alarm for the twenty-seventh time.
Tony came back to town,
Charades, pop skill, water hyacinth.
I am just a cowboy, lonesome on the trail.
C'mon, all you people
Dogs of war, men of hate
What're we going to do now?
Waking up I see that everything is ok
Sleepless nights and endless days
Can you hear me calling?
Here in the house.

Chapter 8.5: A Spot Of Tea
In a different part of the multiverse, Beatrice Phidel closed the window and gazed out thoughtfully into the evening sky. Summer evenings were always pleasant - sweltering heat becoming soothing cool as the sky turned dark by shades. At the point of sunset, it was almost as if the sky itself was being coloured in by the orange glow of the Bidfold-on-Trent streetlights writ large. Of course, that wasn't for a couple of hours - but there was no need to rush an evening like this.
No need at all. She gracefully walked over to the patterned sofa she had been resting on just before, ignoring the obnoxious braying of next-door's dog from outside, and lay back again with the peaceful sigh of a good day well used. Letting her hair fall where it landed, Beatrice meticulously picked a spot off her skirt and then reached out to the old wooden sideboard. Perfect. Her tea had just cooled to the right temperature. This was all you could ask for, she thought to herself as sh

All My OCs - By Series
Two things really took me by surprise when I did that list of all my OCs at the start of the year: one, I kept updating it rather than leaving it as-is, and two, other people did versions of their own. Wow! A lot of them, though, were organised by series rather than in a big alphabetical list like mine. Personally I quite like the big alphabetical list, so that’s the version I will likely keep updating, but I thought it was really interesting to do my own version with them all by series as well. Besides, it helps give you an idea of who these names all are, especially since there are so many of them!
Some versions of this, like Cyber-Wildcat’ version, use nifty formatting tricks with italics and underlining to show which characters were more important than others. I’ve gone for a much simpler system – the closer you are to the top, the more important you are. Bear in mind with this, though, the ‘central’ characters of each series will gener

Chapter 8: Room Service
'Room for two for one night will cost you fifteen.'
Lucian folded his arms. 'Twelve.'
'You know what? Fine. It's late.' The lich behind the wooden counter turned around to pick the key off the rack and Lucian smiled tightly at a deal well won. Without turning his head he said 'Jason, stop staring.'
'I'm not staring!'
'You've been staring at everything since we got into this city. Also, you sound defensive when you're lying.'
'But that thing has a shelled carapace and an eye in the middle of its face and-'
'Then stop staring at it. You want to draw its attention?'
'One floor up,' the lich declared in its eternally dry voice, turning back as it slapped the key onto the table. 'Eighth corridor, first room.' Lucian scooped the key up and automatically began towing Jason towards the staircase past a couple staring romantically through the window, ignoring the other boy's protests at being manhandled so.
'That thing could have vapourised you in an inst

Chapter 7: Teenager On Top of the World (Meanwhile)
From the window you could see right the way across the horizon, spotless blue sky stretching brightly over great swathes of field, forest, farmland and dirt. Flowing across the landscape were the cities, huge sprawling masses of urbanisation from Beluvia in the south to Lerrus in the north-east, spilling out over the plain like concrete lakes. On a good day you could even see Antu-wp just over the horizon. Lucy looked out over all this land from her window, and knew that one day she would own it all.
She hated that thought. It spoiled her ability to enjoy the view.
It wasn't her fault that they had an excellent vantage and view point in this building. In the millennia gone by it had served the previous occupants well to build the giant stone castle on the top of a mountain with a cliff on three sides and a long, straight uphill road leading up the other. It made it easy to spot maraudin

Farside Pub: Fairy Dust
“You’ve been popping up here a lot, haven’t you?”
The barkeeper spoke without looking up at who had just entered the room. Without seeing the man dressed in a suit that made him appear plainly overdressed in the roadside tavern he had found himself in. The long hair that falls upon his shoulders like fine, golden silk contrasts the more rugged look of many other patrons alone. Yet the one thing that does match is piercing eyes, hiding themselves behind a soft smile and fair skin.
“Whatever do you mean?” The man looked towards the barkeeper with those eyes, a tone fitting the rest of his face cooling them.
“Now I know a repeat customer. You may not come frequently, but you sure do come regularly.” The barkeep brings his own eyes up to match, showing no other response to the question asked.
“Even if that were so, what reason have you to bring it up?” The barkeep turned fully to face his customer as the two grew ever closer. One

Alright. Time for a change of scenery. I updated my journal twice in 2017, good grief.

Truth is, I never left dA at all. It just probably looked like it. I know people aren't that fussed, but I would like the record of why I didn't write very much last year-and-a-bit to be visible for anyone who wishes. Partly, it's cathartic for me. It turns out there was more to it than 'dA doesn't interest me anymore', and I want that to be shown:

Autumn 2016 - February-ish 2017:    I decided old chapters from Perception needed re-writing, and so I needed to work out what they should be changed to. This was surprisingly difficult. I then had a go at actually rewriting them, which also took a long time. One of the things that caused a lot of what happened this last year or so was that I hated trying to work on multiple things at once, and so planning took out any writing that could have happened in tandem.

February to Spring:    After talking with my parents a bit about stress, I realised that my approach to writing was very unhealthy. I had been trying to do a bit every day, but between mounting degree work and more general everyday commitments this was becoming harder to do. There was nothing wrong with that, but I was taking it very badly because I felt it was a personal failure  every day it didn't happen. On their advice I completely nixed doing any writing at all, and I have to say it did me a lot of good.

Spring to June:    I wanted to ease myself back into writing - I wanted to get back into it naturally, rather than making myself do it again (which would have defeated the entire point). And so that's what I did. This being a new phenomenon for me, it was pretty slow going and for a lot of time even after I technically allowed myself to write again I didn't, simply because I didn't want to force myself. This, also, was a good idea, but it was a good idea that affected several months. Also, this was when I did manage to write two chapters of Winner Takes All. Given the nature of that series, I think I can safely say that some behind-the-scenes stuff needed adjusting for those chapters - this, of course, required some time working out what to change them to.

June to August or so:    You'll likely have seen the journal for this one - this was when I decided I didn't want to write Perception anymore and wanted to replace it with a different series. So I started planning one. As mentioned, I didn't want to plan and write at the same time, so I focused on planning. I had a bunch of ideas, and I started making a new story. However...

August or so to October:    I realised I was doing with my new series what I had been doing with Perception - I was including things that didn't really belong there, just because I was throwing them in. I knew that if I did so, it was going to go the way Perception did. To make sure it didn't, I dropped that story idea completely. So technically, all that time was 'wasted' with regard to producing a new story - or writing a chapter of an old one -, but it kind of had to happen that way. So I started considering ideas for a new one.
It was around here that for some reason, I decided that I wanted to produce a new plan and that I could save it up as a surprise in some way. This somehow lead to me deciding to not post anything beyond comments - not even a journal - to dA until I had the plan for the new series all sorted out. In retrospect, this turned out to not be a good idea, because I still don't have one and trying to maintain a 'radio silence of work' just made me forget partly what I was doing this for in the first place.

October to mid December:    Uni work returned with a vengeance. Seriously. A lot of it was a project of the kind we've never had before, which then threw all my lecture notes and general revision out of whack. That lead, for someone like me, to a lot of doubt and self-blame for not being on top of things, and a lot of time being eaten up (though not as bad as before. Might not sound like it, but I was much better this year than I was in previous equivalent situations with work. Yeah). I also had quite a thing this semester about worrying about the 'correct' way to use my spare time - should I read a book? Should I do some planning? Should I watch Netflix? Something else? This isn't an important question to most people, but for the kind of neurotic person I am this was actually a really big deal. It lead to me feeling like I was spending a lot of time 'badly' in some unspecified way, which has a pretty big effect on your willingness to get stuff done if you feel like you've lost before you started. Even so, some planning of my new original story did make it through. Part of this as well was working out how I plan stories. It turned out that I did it best by the way I had been doing it before anyway, but it took trying various stuff out to discover this.

TL;DR version: Planning stories, and working through personal stuff.

And now here we are. My current frame of mind: It doesn't matter as much what I do with personal/leisure time, so long as I'm not doing the same thing all the time. Getting behind a bit of work is understandable as well if that was because you were keeping up with other parts of work - part of it is being able to do a solid day's work and be satisfied with that. I'm going to ditch the radio silence as well, hence this journal. I thought it would be helpful, but partly I thought I'd be able to 'burst down' this story plan and get it done really quickly. That was proving a massively counter-productive idea. So with a bit of luck, I'm going to let myself swing in and out of planning this story vs. actual writing - basically, I'm going to do more of what I want to with my writing and less of what I feel I ought/must do. I do have a lot of ideas for my new story, and a really encouraging amount of progress has been made with it - but I also want to enjoy writing more. And part of that is in not holding a gun to my head over it.

Heh. Quite a message. I am aware that a lot of this probably won't make sense if you're not me, but I just wanted to say that I have avoiding dA for a reason lately - but not a very good reason, which is why I'm letting it go and taking a more lax approach to writing. This will probably take a while and won't be gotten right on the first try, but hey, that's called being human. I look forward to seeing more people around and about.

Sir/madam, you haven't defined how exactly it is that Pokémon is demonic. If you want to make your point, at least provide the basis for your argument.

Also, you may want to consider the tone of message you are using for witness. As a Christian, this comes across like a preachy rant, when we are supposed witness to other people in a loving manner (1 Corinthians 13:1-3).

I don't know if you'll read this or not, but if you do I hope you think about it.
