What are Tasks?
Tasks are story progressions or fun prompts that are open for group members to use to make art and accompanying text. There are some Tasks that depend on earlier prompts, others can be completed at any time. In order to participate in any  Tasks, the member must have a completed color reference in our reference folder. There may be a time limit for some Tasks, but most are open for members to complete when they like. Tasks should be submitted to the appropriate folders.

Nicolas was tired after a good swim and fell asleep fast.... His dreams were restless and strange this night....

Meeting the Lady:
Nicolas went to sleep as he normally did but had a vivid dream [or rather nightmare] about drowning in an unusual pool of water. He was wearing what he wore that day and honestly couldn't determine if he was awake or asleep... As he struggled to stay above water, some of the water formed the figure of a woman who floated near him whispering, "Great Water Snake... make-up..." As he continued to struggle to stay afloat, she changed her whispers, "Guardian Hydrus, make up... make up..."

He knew what a hydrus was. He knew she was talking to him. He looked almost calmly at the snake bracelet he wore, and if by chance it started to glow. The water woman struck an arm out and grasped his wrist brutally hard and shouted, "Guardian Hydrus, Great Water Snake, MAKE-UP!" In a flash, Nicolas was no longer himself but part himself and part watersnake... "Wake up wake up wake up!" he yelled to himself as his new tail rose from the water and looked at him with coppery eyes. He could feel his own eyes change and his hair suddenly grew to an alarming length...

Before him, the water woman held out a brooch with a constellation on it: Hydrus, the male water snake... It flowed through her and into her outstretched arm that had hold of Nicolas' left wrist and bracelet. The brooch melded together with his ouroboros bracelet, turning it coppery and shiny. Finally she let go and whispered, "Guardian Hydrus, wake up, wake up..."

Nicolas' eyes flashed open, and he lay exhausted in his bed feeling his torso and legs to make sure they were still present and accounted for, gulping air as though he really had been drowning. Then he noted the light glinting off of his bracelet which was unusual... It was made of copper now. What was that woman? Was she real? Was he Guardian Hydrus? ... "She said, 'Guardian Hydrus, Great Water Snake, Make-Up?" Quizzically he recited everything the woman had said, and in a flash he was up and transformed into Knight Hydrus. Though Nicolas was deeply alarmed, he also felt at home in this new skin. Then he heard her voice once more, "You have been found Knight Hydrus..." That was it. He didn't know what to think, and it took over an hour of precious lost sleep to figure out how to de-transform... but eventually Nicolas stood as himself again in his loft with many more questions than he had answers as he thumbed his now copper bracelet...

The Bracelet:
The ouroboros snake bracelet was given to Nicolas when he was 12 years old as a gift by his late grandfather who said his own father had passed it to him. Each son in the family is gifted this bracelet when they get their first snake. Nicolas had thought a simple woven snake bracelet could not be such an important family heirloom, but he nonetheless gratefully accepted it as that was how he was raised... storing it in a safe place. Later in life, when his grandfather passed, he vowed to wear it always in memory of him. Nicolas and him were close when he was growing up, so this sort-of tribute was his way of keeping his grandfather's memory alive. The woman of water that he met in his dreams fused the constellation brooch with the woven bracelet. It is like she knew it was meant to be with Nicolas always - a precious gift.
