For those of you who have never heard of this hidden gem (A.K.A. 99% of my watchers), Monster Girl Quest is an eroge fantasy series and the second eroge game I've played so far. There are way too many things to write for this series, so all I am going to say is: you HAVE to play it. It's got an epic story, amazing character development, fun gameplay, great soundtrack, countless badass moments and tons of female monsters that will rape your ass if they defeat you in battle. Again, you must absolutely play this game. Why? As my audience, you guys have been watching me for uploading DxD related stuff. That means that you're perverts like me, right? Well, let me tell you, this game's pervertness makes DxD look like a children story. That is why... YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST PLAY IT.
But enough of me trying to convince you to play it (hopefully, you'll give it a shot). Now, here is my list on my top 10 characters for this wonderful game. But let's take a look at some characters who almost made it to the top 10, A.K.A. the honorable mentions: - Black Alice:
Because of her spooky theme song, her creepy ass personality, her rumored love story with Heinrich and her crazy back-to-back boss fights near the end of the game. And holy hell, was she a pain to deal with. - Erubetie:
Because I really like her design, as well as the fact that she changes her persective about humans in the end... even though she killed tons of innocents that did absolutely nothing wrong. But hey, she did help in the final battle, which resulted in saving the lifes of thousands, humans and monsters alike. Although some might argue that she did so because she only wanted to save her own race... Yeah, she's a conflicted character. - Lucia:
Because she was one of the few characters who, despite suffering a lot, managed to break free from the circle of hate and ended up saving her village, which she initially sough out to destroy. Also, because she is the only member of the Seekers Of Truth who survived in the end. And of course, because she's a hottie.
And now, here are my 10 most favorite characters for MGQ:#10: Lazarus
I don't remember another case in which I initially despised a character so much that I wanted them to be brutally murdered on the spot, only for them to redeem themselves in such a manner that I actually wanted them to make it through in the end. That's the case with Lazarys, the leader and co-founder of the anti-monster terrorist group known as Ilias Kreuz. Although he was involved in the killing of Alice the 15th and was the one who (accidentally) killed Marcellus, Luka and Alice the 16th (A.K.A. the children of the people he killed) spared, after realising that killing him would neither help their cause nor bring back their deceased parents. Eventually, he is redeemed by sacrificing himself to defend Gold Port and its people during the global invasion in Chapter 3. Lazarus, you are forgiven. #9: Shirome Artiste (A.K.A La Croix)
Chrome's big sister, the second in command of the Seekers Of Truth and the ultimate zombie necromancer. Definitely one of the best villains in the game. She has probably the most dangerous collection of undead servants, all of which used to be queens of their respective races (she even managed to turn Alice the 15th into one of her servants, holy hell!) The way she goes out (asking her own sister to put her down) was one of the most moving moments in the game. Overall, Shirome was a villain who did some nasty things, but she was far from the most evil bad girl in the picture, so I believe she deserved a better fate.#8: Promestein
The mystical genius scientist angel and leader of the Seekers Of Truth. Not only is she awesome for being the one to invent all the high-tech machines and monsters that appear in the game, but she is also a great character for being the only angel smart enough to openly question the angels' beliefs, which state that every phenomenon in existence is created by Ilias. And even though she was allied with the bad guys (even though she did turn against Ilias near the end of the game), she always admired humans when monsters only thought of them as food and mates and angels considered them to be nothing short of lower life forms. And even when she's defeated, she's chivalrous enough to let Luka and Alice, the ones who kill her, use her research to help evolve both humankind and monsterkind. If only she had betrayed Ilias to join forces with the humans and the monsters, instead of betraying Ilias to serve her own goals, maybe she'd still be alive. #7: Heinrich
The legendary unbaptised hero who saved the world from Black Alice, 500 years prior to the events of MGQ. A kind yet ultimate badass hero who invented some of the most powerful magic sword attacks, such as Elemental Spica and Quadruple Giga, and the angels' worst nightmare. Although he is mentioned throughout the game, his spirit only makes a brief appearance in Chapter 3, but even so, he teaches a bunch of unfortunate angels a painful lesson. If only he somehow appeared during Luka and Alice's battle against Black Alice during Chapter 3, that would be mind-blowing. However... despite being such a badass, even he could do nothing to defeat the mastermind that was behind everything, and when he did, he paid the price. #6: Chrome Artiste
The cute little succubus necromancer and Shirome's sister. Although a failure as a succubus, her necromancing skills have given her a powerful number of zombies to control, the strongest one being Frederika. Although she's a bit of a sadist who doesn't hesitate to use deceased people's corpses to as test subjects for her experiments, she's overall a nice person, driven to restore her family name. She loves her older sister dearly as she is the one to deal the finishing blow on Shirome when the latter reveals that she has become a zombie and that her true self is gone. Definitely one of the saddest scenes in the game, but it also paves the way for Chrome to make her epic return in the climax of Chapter 3, where she finally joins the good guys, storms the Chruch of San Ilia during the global invasion and protects the King, his followers and the villagers by battling the angel forces, using both her own creations, as well as the renmants of her now deceased sister's zombies. Badass moment right there! #5: Tamamo No Mae
One of the Six Ancestors, the Heavenly Knight of Earth, the Queen of the Kitsune and all beast-type monsters, as well as Alice's foster mother, Tamamo is the oldest, the strongest and the busiest of the Heavenly Knights (since she mostly does Alice's work for her). Her power alone might even surpass that of the Monster Lord. But apart from being an extremely powerful monster, she's one of the nicest monsters you meet in the game. Caring, compassionate, a bit suggestive and a fried tofu lover, she is one of the best allies you can hope to have and one of the greatest enemies if you are working against the Monster Lord, as shown in the ending of Chapter 2, where she puts up possibly the hardest fight in the entire game, as well as in the ending of Chapter 3, where she finally reveals her true power and one-shots Tsukuyomi, the Next Doll that was made with the purpose of beating Tamamo. Poor Tsukuyomi didn't even see it coming. Ah well. That's what happens when you challenge one of the Six Ancestors to a fight. #4: Alma Elma (A.K.A. Kyuba)
The Heavenly Knight of Wind and the Queen of the Succubus race, Alma Elma is definitely my favorite Heavenly Knight. Playful, sultry, voluptuous and probably the biggest slut in the entire game, since she always rapes whoever challenges her in the Grand Noah Colliseum (much to the pleasure of both the victim and the audience), where she's the reigning champion under the nickname "Kyuba". But apart from being an all-around sex bomb, she also has a very interesting background (one that's not explained in detail, unfortunately), she is the second deadliest Heavenly Knight after Erubetie (but I won't put much blame on her for that-the people who died because of her were not killed by her directly, rather they died because of the failsafes she put in place to prevent heroes from reaching the Monster Lord's castle-all in all, she was nowhere near as bad as Erubetie, who would kill any humans she meets indiscriminately), and she's also one of the most honorable fighters in the game, as she helps Luka master the power of the wind, rather than just kill him, which would be extremely easy to do. Despite all that, she can be downright ruthless when she fights a serious threat, as seen in the end of Chapter 3, where she stops using pleasure attacks and instead uses martial arts, beating the living shit out of Hainuwele and absolutely pummeling the unfortunate Next Doll to death. Definitely Alma's best moment in the game.
The protagonist of MGQ. An unbaptised hero who initially sets out to defeat the Monster Lord and ends up getting a lot more than he bargained for. He is a rather poor swordsman when he first begins his journey, but thanks to Alice's advice, his power and skill grow dramatically. An ambitious, simplistic and rather naive adventurer, as he follows Ilias' orders (with the notable exception being that he does not wish to kill the Monster Lord, as he wants to see humans and monsters co-exist in a peaceful world), but also kind, fearless and stubborn (in a good sense) warrior who never backs down from danger and always fights for the weak, even if it's sometimes the wrong thing to do. Later on he becomes a much wiser man and a far more powerful warrior who ends up fighting to ensure the survival of both humanity and monsterkind, alongside the monsters and humans he met throughout his journey. Eventually he achieves his dream and he even gets married to the Monster Lord he initially sought to defeat. That's one hell of a ride for Luka, and it's also more than enough reason to include him on this list. #2: Alipheese Fateburn XVI (A.K.A. Alice The 15th or just plain old Alice)
The infamous Monster Lord and the female leading character of MGQ, Alice is easily the best monster in the series. Mystical, threatening, bossy but also lenient, strong-minded, and one of the good guys, despite getting a bad rep for being the Monster Lord. Her best qualities, of course, are her great combat abilities (her boss fight is easily the easiest to get out of hand-while she's not that tough, she can turn the tide of the battle with extreme ease, which I why her boss fight was probably the hardest one for me in the entire game), her vast knowledge on sexual skills and also the fact that she can and will eat anything she gets her hands on. When she fisrt joins Luka, all she does is criticise him for being naive and weak, while avoiding to reveal her true identity to him. However, seeing his potential, she starts training him to make him stronger so that he completes his quest and, unbeknownst to him at that point, have him kill her when their inevitable confrontation comes. She also has probably the most emotional scenes in the game, such as the flashback where we see a young Alice go berzerk after watching her mother dying, killing 2 of the 4 humans that were involved in the act and heavily injuring the other 2, or the last scene of Chapter 2, where she admits defeat to Luka and asks him to kill her, whcih she thought would bring an end to end his quest and finally bring peace between monsters and humans. Thankfully, this didn't happen and the 2 eventually hook up in the end. with Alice getting pregnant with Luka's children. The reason I love Alice so much is because she breaks the cliches of your average heroine, as she's more of an anti-heroine, and because she's the perfect combination of beauty (just look at her), intelligence (able to analyze the attacks patterns of enemies), fun (her habit of over-eating and her fear of ghosts) and sorrow (her tragic background and having the saddest scenes in the game). She would definitely be my favorite MGQ character if it wasn't for the fact that the #1 character on this list is just THAT good. But hey, it was Alice who got the last laugh, so I guess it's her win. #1: Ilias
You didn't see that one coming, did ya? The one true villain and the most hated character in MGQ being ranked number one? Well, it's true. And my reasoning for placing Ilias in the #1 spot is pretty simple. And that's because she was FUCKING AWESOME AS A VILLAIN. Crazy strong, master of manipulation, causer of mass genocide, has 2 awesome themes and she is always 10 steps ahead of everyone else... Not only did she fool the humans and the monsters, but even Black Alice and Promestein, her own servants, who actually believed that they were ahead of her when they were planning to turn on her. She even let these 2 kill her, since she had already come up with a plan that included her dying and being resurrected to become more powerful than ever... and that plan was executed flawlessly. The only part of the plan that did not seem to go as it should is that, during the final battle, Luka, Alice and the others actually managed to defeat her. However, there is a catch: Ilias' set of powers is a whole lot larger than the powers she displayed during the final battle, something that makes me wonder... was Ilias fighting them seriously? Or was getting killed (again) part of her plan? We might never know. But in order to defeat her and her army of angels, it took everyone to gather and have monsters and humans unite to make their last stand. And even then, maybe that was part of the plan too. She was one hell of a schemer after all. I guess we will never know, but this doesn't take away anything from her character. She was an excellent villain, and for that, she gets the top spot on my list.
