Soapstone Applejack in the making collage

This little collage shows the development from a raw rock of soapstone (which I had originally meant to carve into a dragonhead) into a figure of Applejack. There was no carving done between the final four images, but they demonstrate the difference it makes if you polish the carved stone with some oil or wax that gives the stone a shiny look and stronger colors.

Thank you very much :) (Smile)
There are so many different types of art one can try. Drawing and painting (both manually and digitally), carving (soapstone, wood etc.), origami, metal casting (usually pewter), stitching etc.
The sheer multitude of forms of arts is part of what I love about it. One can have fun and learn new things by trying out many different means. There is no form of art in which I didn't find other artists to inspire me and to look up to because the quality of their masterpieces is far beyond what I so far created with the same means; but I do take a little pride (and more importantly, joy) in the variety of the forms of art I've been trying.
