There are many types of magic out there in the world. Some of them are dependent on mystical items, others rely on spiritual blessings, and more still rely on the innate magical energy residing in all but the most mundane of the magically inclined. Here is my (not so) comprehensive list of types of magical items and pros and cons.
Wands – This most basic of magical tools according to mortal fiction concerning magic is deceptively complicated. One cannot simply pick up a random stick they find on the ground and use it to cast a spell. The wood of the wand (it may never be plastic, plastic is the anti-magic) must come from either a magic tree (sacred Yews, the famous Yggdrasil, etc.) or a tree that has been imbued with magic from a seedling, more often than being planted for the sole purpose of creating wands.
