An alien interface responding to alpha-waves when examined in Area 51. To be really creeped out it must be viewed full-screen in Media Player or equivalent (it plays too slow in IE).

You can now see a larger version of this along with some other animations here:

Hey I don't know how you did that.. but it's refreshing to see something different :D

Thanks - it's a 3D view of a 4D Julibrot which is a complex maths fractal where the 2D Julia and 2D Mandelbrot forms are mixed to give 4 dimensions. It's for the standard fractal formula z^2+c where "solid" is based on orbit trapping, the animation was produced by modifying some of the orbit trap parameters. All done in Ultrafractal.

Yikes! That's ... erm... yep, creepy! Love it though. I can see it was lots of work...how many frames is it?

It's 100 frames, but I went a bit overboard and rendered at 3072*2304 (without AA) and it took around 107 hours :-) I'm going to do another version this time both morphing and rotating using more frames to get a full-view but I'll stick to 1024*768 and increase the detail level (there is some "missed solid" on some of the thin strands that I want to fix).
Thanks for taking time to comment, I'm enjoying playing with the 3D stuff :#1:

Oh wow! It *is* kinda creepy, in a wonderful way! Nice going, Dave!

Thanks Panny - I'm considering doing an extended version, rotating the view as the object animates - it'll take quite a lot of rendering to get a good quality result :-)

Wow! That's a VERY cool ani, Dave. I really like these forms you've been making.

Thanks again ! I'm just contemplating spending my spare time over the next couple of weeks on writing a vastly optimised and extended version of the formulas - mainly to get the rendering time down (I'm aiming for a 10 fold improvement).

Very spooky looking,
nothing I want to meet in a dark corner of deep space :D

I envisaged it as some sort of small implant :-) Thanks for commenting.

Thanks - it took quite a while as the full size version is rather large.
