Behind the scenes disaster is brewing
From the shadows, darkness is seeping
Another war beginning to unravel
Of nine dragons
One will rise
Two will learn
A hidden danger slowly rising
An object lost in darkness
A question unanswered
“I don't know how much longer I can take this,” an unusual looking dark blue dragon, one not like any of the seven tribes, thought aloud as she paced the length of the chilly cave.
Near the opening of the cave another dragon spoke, his pale, almost white, scales glinting in the minal light currently being given off by the other dragon.. “When you say this what all are you referring too.” He sat calmly in the cave, but his spiked tail moved behind him anxiously.
Stopping in front of him, the unusual dragon stared at him before speaking. “What do you think Polarus?! Dragons are dying. Are friends being picked off one by one. No one knows how either. Or even worse, why? Nightmares haunt my thoughts. Questions are all I have. I'm worried. Worried for what's to come. Worried for us and how much time we have before were targeted. Worried for our daughter…”
“Galaxy,” Polarus spoke calmly, moving towards the other dragon. Pulling her close, he wrapped his wings around her and held her. “Everything will be okay. You always have cared so much. Willing to take a hit for anyone. It's just one of the many reasons why I love you. What's happened so far is already set in stone, no longer able to be changed…”
“I get that, but there's still the thought of what could have been done. Who could have been saved.” Galaxygazer’s voice grew quiet as she looked at the ground of the cave. Memories of her friends flashed in her mind.
“No. I don't think you do. It's alright to worry but don't let worry take over. You're still here. We're still here. We can still work to protect the future, help those who are here. And if anything happens to go wrong,” Polarus paused as he lifted Galaxy's chin with a talon. “You have made a plan. That's better than most.”
“All that that leads to is more questions, all of which I won't the see the answer too. All I hope for is the best for everyone. At least Amethyst has her friends Okapi and Infinity. They keep her away from trouble, most of the time at least.”
“And as Infinity keeps insisting, Amethyst always has a home in the rainforest with her. I'm sure it would make Geko and Crane happy to know their daughters are living happily with their friend.”
Galaxy released a heavy sigh. “You're right, but either way it still doesn't stop me from worrying.”
“I know. Now… What was it that I came in here to ask you…”
At the entrance to the cave system, a mysterious deep green dragon stood. A maniacal smirk spread across his lips. He followed the voices of Galaxygazer and Polarus through the labyrinth of tunnels to the room where they sat talking. His talons clicked on the rock floor the whole walk there.
Dark laughter filled the cave. “Maybe she's right to worry,” his voice boomed ominously. “Or maybe you're about to see how much things have changed.”
Galaxy had a confused look on her face. The voice seemed familiar somehow. Her mind strengthened the walls that she imagined were there to keep all her thoughts protected. “Who are you? What are you talking about?” She spoke, standing in front of Polarus protectively.
“Can you tell now princess,” the dragon spat out as he scraped his way into the light. Scars cut through the scales by his void-like eyes. Dried blood covered his shoulder. One of his ears were torn….
Galaxy took a half-step back in realization, her muscles taught. “No… It can't be. Torrent?” Shivers ran down her spine.
“The one and only,” Torrent spoke confidently, “though a bit different then you would remember. We've all changed after you left. You should be happy, though. You are the one who wanted things to be different after all.”
“I never meant for things to become like this,” Galaxy voiced quietly.
“Like what,” Torrent scoffed, “dark, murderous, the complete opposite of when you left… Truthfully, this whole conversation has been a bore. I believe it's about time I do what I was sent here to do.” Torrents tail flicked back and forth in excitement. Crouching down, he pounced towards Galaxygazer, his tail spinning around and hitting Polarus in the jaw.
Holding Galaxy's neck in place against the rock floor as she struggled underneath him, he bowed his head down so his mouth was by her ear. “How's it feel to meet your assassin,” he whispered darkly.
Pain erupted across Galaxy's body as Torrents claws raked her neck and sides, maroon blood pooled around her and her vision grew dark and hazy. Sounds of battle filled her ears. Blinking away the darkness, Galaxy watched as her mate collapsed to the ground.
Torrent turned towards her, blue and red blood splattered across his scales. “Just think of how different things could have been,” he spoke before lunging, claws first, at Galaxy’s throat.
For a moment, all the dark blue dragon felt was burning pain before she drifted away from the darkness and towards a welcoming white light.
