This will serve as an introduction and description for a fun project I've been working on every now then when choosing what beadsprites to make.

One of my all-time favourite mangas and animes is One Piece. I discovered the manga (translated to Swedish) when I was in 8th or 9th grade (somewhere around (2006-2007)) when I was trying to find something to read in the school's library. I got instantly hooked, read everything they had and continued to buy the manga from a book store. A few years ago they stopped translating it as the general interest, I'm guessing the profit involved for the companies, for manga (atleast translated) has dropped in Sweden. I bought some of the ones that were translated to English, either via international orders or when I visited New York two years. In the mean time, I also began watching the anime. I feel like a have a sort of love-hate relationship with the anime, since they like to drag on with small stuff and include a lot fillers, BUT when they finally get to epic fight scenes or emotional parts, man, it's awesome. The anime has currently passed 765+ episodes and will continue for a long, long time.

If you're not familiar with One Piece, here is a short description/summary from Wikipedia (…):
"One Piece (Japaneseワンピース HepburnWan Pīsu?) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It has been serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since July 19, 1997, with the chapters collected into eighty-two tankōbon volumes to date. One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a young man whose body gained the properties of rubber after unintentionally eating a Devil Fruit. With his diverse crew of pirates, named the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy explores the Grand Line in search of the world's ultimate treasure known as "One Piece" in order to become the next King of the Pirates."

Anyhow, when I started making beadsprites a few years ago, One Piece was (naturally) one of my go-to themes. I made the Strawhat crew (simple versions of it, still have them in some drawers...), but always felt it would be cool to make more of the characters. The reason for not uploading any of these was cause I felt they were too small and kinda simple, even though they were pretty cool. I then happened to discover which has ton of of awesome sprites for various games, one of them being One Piece Gigant Battle! 1/2. Now, I've made almost 50 (!) beadsprites of different characters from OP and have a lot more planned. Eventually I will run out of sprites from spritedatabase, but luckily enough I've found an enormous amount of fan-made sprites of various characters from different talented sprites here on DeviantArt (I will credit them later on in this post, and in every picture I use their sprites as a reference)!

So let's get to the point, what is ProjectOnePiece? Pretty simple. It's my own fun, personal goal of trying make ALL involved (or as many as possible) characters from the entire manga/anime. This means we're probably talking about potentially upwards of 200-300 (or more) beadsprites. This is a huge and long project which will take a long time to complete, but on the other hand I will most likely always have something to work towards to. I'm already 50 characters in, so I feel pretty motivated to continue and see how far I can go with this. So, where do I "begin" aka continue? Here's some sort of a preliminary plan as of (21st November 2016):

  1. Post pictures of the 45-50 characters I've already done. Some of the are really old (2+ years), so I feel like I should remake some of them with a better and expanded color palette (refer to step 3). Pretty easy, but as I want short descriptions and links/credit for all images it'll probably be a bit work, a couple of hours maybe?

  2. Finish up making beadsprites of all characters that are available on I'm unsure how many I have left, but not too many.

  3. Remake my oldest versions. Some examples are Ace, Thousand Sunny and Buggy (see pictures later in folder). They feel a bit too simple and some of their colors could be improved by a lot.

  4.  Hard to "plan" this far (we could be talking about a few months), but this is probably where I'll begin looking at sprites made by other people (again, links further down).

  5. To be added at a later point.

Okay, that was probably that majority of thoughts and planning I had done up until now. Making beadsprites is a real passion for me, so doing a "project" (or whatever you wanna call it) feels like a fitting, interesting and fun idea. It's not something I will be working on 100% of time, as there are a bajillion number of other cool sprites you can use to create beadsprites with. I just felt like it would be appropriate to write something longer and more "serious" before suddenly uploading a crap ton of pictures, specifically of One Piece characters.
I'm also very lucky to have a supportive family that helps with a lot of stuff in my life. The ultimate goal for me is to reach a position where I can make some sort of living of beadsprites, or at least something related. You never know what the future holds! :)
Anyway, to round this of (for the moment at least) thank you to whoever reads this. It means a lot to me that you took your time for me!
Finally a big, big shoutout to all of the people that have added me to their Watch, everyone one who favourites and comments on my pictures and lastly, to anyone that checks out my page and pictures! Thank you!

TL;DR: ProjectOnePiece is a personal project of mine where I will try to ALL (or as many as possible) characters from the manga/anime One Piece. This whole post is just my thoughts and feelings revolving around the whole thing, both the past, the present and the future. That's all (for now), thank you for reading!

Oh yeah, if there's any specific character you would like to see as a beadsprite, leave comment or message and I will try to prioritize to create it+upload a picture of it! :D
That's all (for now, will probably add more stuff as time goes on), thank you for reading!
I hope you all have a nice day!

Best regards,

Hai! :iconmagicpearls:

About me

My name is Jonathan, I'm 24 years old and from the southern part of Sweden.
In my spare time I like to hang out with friends, play MMORPGS, make beadsprites, read manga, watch anime, eat pasta, listen to music, watch movies (both Youtube and you know, stuff from Hollywood) and to read various crap I found on the internet and IRL. I also like to think out loud when I'm alone and sleep (a lot). :w00t:
Most of the times, I go out of my way to be careful and efficient. I am also quite shy, quiet and withdrawn, especially in the company of new people and big crowds.
I am a very honest and humble being, I try to help others when I have the knowledge and power to do so and I possess a big heart.
Easily addicted to stuff, "self-diagnosed" (not really) with something similar to OCD, usually care and think about a lot of things more than one probably should sometimes.

My name

The name "MagicPearls" comes from when I wanted to create my DeviantArt and Instagram account. I've played video games for almost 20 years of my life, and ever since I started playing MMOs and RPGs, there was always one class that caught my eye: spellcasters. Whether it be the traditional wizard, the more charismatic sorcerer, a healing priest or druid, it was always my choice. Therefore, I wanted a name that had something to do with magic. It is also combined with that fact that even tough "real" magic doesn't exist, what I consider magic is the way art is created through the sheer imagination of the human mind.
Since I wanted to upload pictures of my beadsprites, I chose "pearls", basically a slightly worse translation of beads from the Swedish word "pärlor". Besides, I didn't like "MagicBeads" very much, although it doesn't sound too bad thinking about it... But I am happy with the name I chose!
So, that is the story of my display name, "MagicPearls"!

Why am I here?

My main use for DeviantArt is uploading pictures of my creations with beads, aka "beadsprites/perlers" in full resolution, finding amazing art done by talented individuals that can also be used as inspiration for my own creations and finally, to hopefully meet and get to know some new people!
The themes I like to work with are mainly various anime related stuff (One Piece being the favourite among many) and Pokemon. I do however dip into other themes such as video games (World of Warcraft, Touhou, Super Mario and League of Legends) and movies (Star Wars) too.
If you have any questions about my creations or anything about beadsprites in general, feel free to message me or leave a comment and I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible!
