Every Strangled Breath

The world as it stands is all full of pain
and people who’ll hurt you time and again.
They’ll fight you for money, they’ll fight you for land,
they’ll fight you for happiness, and won’t accept a hand
held out to help them, held out in peace;
and until they do, this fighting won’t cease.

This world as it is stands full of fear and people who live life in arrears.
They promise the world, they promise true joy,
they make promises daily to each girl and boy.
But until such times as these promises ring true, you’ll never get what they’ve promised you,
and what’s furthermore, what’s hard to compute,
is that their fuzzy promises and unkindness’s are what leaves one mute
with worry and mute in fear,
for we are all one people here.

We need each other to survive life’s bends,
But all we get are scraps and ends
Of partnerships, friendships and lovers; gone.
So instead of peace and kindness going strong
It’s war and fighting: murders, rapes, and deaths.
And the loss of love in every strangled breath.
