Massachusetts, New England, September 13th 1876. It had been eleven years since the end of the civil war, the end of slavery and the end of the Confederacy.

Through many losses, sacrifice and death, things didn't seem to be getting any easier especially for a particular young woman by the name of Scarlett, who after the loss of both her parents caused by the war had no other choice but to take over an old bookshop that her parents used to own together before their deaths.

She can still remember the day a Union soldier came to her doorstep giving her a handwritten letter explaining to the young girl that of her parents had both died in the field of battle leaving her all alone in the world with nobody but herself.

*the following night*

Nightfall had come down hard for the people in New England mostly because of the weather. That night was extremely unforgiving for a young man named Norman. Now, Norman wasn't like most people his age, for you see, Norman was a borrower. After loosing his previous home he had to live off the land for a couple weeks, before finding a bookshop to settle down in hopefully permanently. But only after the first two weeks of moving in his new home, supplies started running dangerously dry leaving him with no other option but to go out scavenging.

After a hard day of working in the shop selling books, Scarlett decided to close up the bookstore and head up the stairwell and into the living quarters on the second floor. Making her way to the bedroom, she reaches into one of her dresser drawers and pulls out a nightgown to sleep in. But before she goes to sleep for the night, she takes one last look at a framed photograph that was hanging on the wall of her and parents before the war crying softly into her pillow.

Meanwhile, in another room Norman was busy looking for food and anything else that could be useful in the kitchen two doors down from the bedroom.
