After the fall quarter of painting other people and attempting to illustrate their stories through paint, I began to paint myself. The goal was to paint a few different self-portraits, during different mental states. I wanted to isolate exactlywhat was different in how I saw myself, how I treated the paint, during an anxious high, depressive low, or neutral state. It ended up being a bit too formulaic still, but it helped me understand what exactly I wanted to think about with the paint and what it was that interested me.
At this point I was trying to explore mark-making and blocks of color, breaking down the portrait even further.
