Duets V by madnessism Duets V by madnessism
A series of documentary photos taken in downtown Fort Lauderdale. I noticed a lot of homeless people walking around the same area as the wealthy weekend suburbanites. The wealthy people completely ignored the homeless, almost as if they weren't even there. It seemed as if these people lived in two different worlds, yet in the same space, which intrigued me. My professor noticed that there are two people together in every image, hence the title.

As always, comments and critiques are GREATLY appreciated!

First off, let me state that I absolutely love the grain in this picture. The texture really adds something to this shot, as does its black and white nature. It gives it an almost timeless feel, with the focus on the patterns of the clothing rather than their colors. I also like how you chose to frame it. There is just enough space surrounding the figures to isolate both the couple and the man in the shot. It is a very strong composition and definitely emphasizes the idea of people passing by the homeless without notice. I also really like how you captured the man's face. His expression says it all and how his hat breaks the boundary of the frame really emphasizes his upward glance. I would be almost tempted to crop out the white border on the top to further draw attention to how you composed the shot, as well as fix the URL at the bottom to completely be in the shot; on my screen the "m" of the .com is cut off.

As for toning, I do like all the shades that you have created in the work but I'd like to see a bit more detail on the wrinkles of the white bag and maybe some darkening of the man's jacket to emphasize the pockets and textures. The depth of field is great, as the figures in the background retain their ambiguity. The dichotomy of a homeless man versus the woman in the background appearing to either reach in or clutch her purse also adds to the strength of this piece.

Great work.
