how do you install these files?

Hello! they don't need to be installed! You just have to download them. When you want to add the coloring to a graphic, you open this file that is already a .xcf (you go to File > Open as layers). All the layers that make the coloring will be stacked on top of the graphic, you can move around the layers to adjust the colors.

You might have to delete some layers with images that are just examples, and some of the layers might have a big circle cut on them but don't worry just fill the missing part with the corresponding color or just move the layer to the side.

Hope this helped, if you got any questions please don't hesitate to ask!

I'll have to try, I usually never use xcf files, my photos are always raw or jpg.

The files are .xcf because if they were .jpg or .png it wouldn't allow you to have the layers when you open it, just a layer with the image. (Remember this is coloring is only for GIMP and gimp files are .xcf unless you export them)

so when I take the picture in raw convert it to .xcf first?

No, you open the image in GIMP. When you are done editing it (let's say you applied the coloring) and want to save it, the program will save it as .xcf (which is a gimp file you can only open in gimp, with all the layers). You have to export the image to make it .png or .jpg, there you will have your image with all the edits you made.

Don't know if you are familiar with photoshop, but I think is the same there, you either save it as a .psd (photoshop file) or export it to make it .png

lol, thats the problem for me, what am I editing with? I guess I dont understand, for example I download one of your xcf coloring files, where does it go? none of my images are originally xcf files, they are raw,jpg or tiff. if I download more xcf coloring files where do they go? Im sorry but its confusing to me,lol, but Id like to learn it.

The colorings are only for gimp... I don't know how can I help you if you don't even know what program these colorings are for. Sorry!
