Okay, so on one hand. Spongebob is a indeed a household name, many a parent and child know about Nickelodeons now longest running show. Who's creator passed away last year. Plus the fact the singer of "Sweet Victory" was game to do the song
Yet, the hard truth is, many a petition don't amount to anything. Big business looks at the real numbers
Almost 100 Million people tuned into the 2019 Superbowl on TV. Probably more on streaming sites
The petition for "Sweet Victory" only gained a bit over one million signers.
That leaves a huge percentage of people who may or may not have cared about Spongebob at the Superbowl.
Yet lets get to the true reality of it all. People here, these Internet personalities with our goofy Youtube shows and rooms filled with all manner of fanbase whatever. How many of us really can compete with the star power of celebrities? The endorsements, the ads? And whatever else on top of that
I mean unless you're Pewdepie, or Fred, maybe Annoying Orange. Yet either way, big business has tried to assimilate such names into their own corporate vision. Taking the mark of the beast in a way you could say
Y'know if you look up on Guinness World Record website, there are zero results when you search Spongebob...Well, I did find something about the largest group of people wearing Spongebob merchandise. Yet Spongebob itself has no world record to it's name it seems
It's just something that's around and well known. How much of pop culture could fit into that sentence?
Also, history has shown without Hillenburg, Spongebob is total cringe. Those dark seasons with Patrick being an asshole and torturing Squidward just because he's the the universes punching bag.
Maybe that's why they're trying to crank him into gear now with this upcoming film and future spin-off series. Trying to keep Sponebob afloat. Their goose isn't making enough golden eggs, so they're at the part of the story where they cut it open.
Maybe it'll be for the best if Spongebob just dies. Especially if we get another "Planet Sheen" or "Rugrats: Preschool Days" with whatevr they do to Spongebob.
Still say just go in guns blazing with Sandy Cheeks. Least she has a lot of dimension
Whatever, at the end of the day Spongebob is just another distraction we watch to briefly forget all the issues in our own lives. Issues we have to face on our own. Spongebob ain't helping to pay bills, Spongebob ain't going to fix our cars, or houses. He's just a cartoon character, and one who I feel some would argue still isn't on he levels of Bugs Bunny or Mickey Mouse.
He'll go out like Fairly Oddparents did, only to become a passing thought thereafter. World don't spin cause of a talking sponge in square pants.
