Melody tied up the kitchen once more before sitting to the side, doing her best to comb through Piper’s fur and pick out the remaining flakes of flour dust. After about ten minutes, she pulled her second attempt at the sun cookies from the oven. Allowing them a few more minutes to cool, she finally circled back to the baking pan and grabbed one.
“Hopefully these are a little better,” Melody said before popping one into her mouth. Almost immediately she began to cough, her eyes beginning to water as she threw out an arm to prevent Piper from sneaking one off the pan.
“Too much firecracker fruit,” she managed to gasp out after a few seconds, setting aside the remainder of her cookie as she raced to grab a glass of milk.
“Okay… Well those were certainly more flavourful,” Melody sighed as she recovered, gingerly setting the remaining cookies from the batch away - taking care to put them far away from the curious lampyre.
“Okay then, new plan,” Melody began, eyeing the available ingredients once more. “Two cups of flour, one egg.”
“Let’s try only one firecracker fruit this time, and three cups of honey instead. Maybe that’ll help balance out the sweet and spicy a bit,” Melody thought aloud as she busied herself with measuring out the ingredients.
Piper observed her work from the top of a nearby shelf, occasionally chirping her approval as Melody prepared the next batch.
“Alright… Well, let’s just hope these turn out better,” Melody sighed as she dusted herself off, sliding the pan back into the oven.
