The atmosphere in the forest this morning after the thunderstorms was truly enchanting. The photograph was taken with my 100mm f/2.8 macro lens.

I am more active on Instagram . Let's connect there too if you like.
Photography tutorials and guides on post-processing and atmospheric backgrounds are available through Gumroad.

How does this look so amazing?! I thought it was a painting at first, but then I zoomed in and it was too detailed for that... my mind is blown

Thank you for taking the time to write a comment. Makes me happy to read your words!

Is there a specific reason for taking forest/landscape photos with a macro lens?

As in, is there any advantage of a macro lens over a "normal" one with the same focal length?

MaaykeKlaver's avatar

There is no specific reason! I started out as a macro photographer, but feel more drawn to forest scapes nowadays. I do like the atmosphere a 100mm lens creates compared to a wide angle lens. The landscape feels more intimate somehow.

Thank you for sharing this piece. As others have already stated, this picture can really get the imagination going. For example, the small opening near the center-point feels like a gateway to a magical world. Also, an opening to the unknown. Not ominous per-say, but more inquisitive (lol can't quite think of the right word at the moment). The sunlight illuminating through the trees gives a very calming feeling, almost to the point of trance. Really need this feeling in these stressful times so thanks for that. I even recommended your page to a friend that likes being around nature. Keep up the good work :D !

You are most welcome :) . Thanks for the llama and happy belated birthday as well :D . Ironically she doesn't get on dA that much anymore herself. Her instagram is https://www.instagram.com/sunny_karma_/ if you want to check her out. I guess I should have given her your instagram now that I think about it since she's up there more often ^^; . Thank you, have a great week as well :D !

Absolutely mystical. Nature always showing us that magic exists for those who take the time to look.

This belongs in a fairy tale or a dream (maybe both).

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful scene.

This is what I like to call fuel for the imagination.

If only I could have seen it in person. =w=

My pleasure ^ ^

This is beautiful! It must've felt so magical to be there in person!

The composition is lovely, and look at that lighting!

Thank you! It was magical indeed. We had weeks of soaring hot days in the Netherlands and this was just after the cooling thunderstorms had passed.
