As the name suggests, the Reformatting Arc reformatted Blitzwing from his G1 toy version to his Generations toy version (well, duh, it was in the story title).
The concept of Energon's Self-Regeneration was described by Chris Mowry in his TFTMT07 sequel comics, when it still looked like a story out of a Michael Bay movie could belong to a broader continuity that could be enjoyed by grown-up readers.
The same Reformatting turns Springer and Doubledealer into Generation toys.
As the post-Rebirth continuity is officially an uncharted territory, and Triple-Changers were not featured in the later waves of the original toy line, we though that upgrading them into Generations toys would be an acceptable move, story-wise speaking.
Of course Doubledealer (which is now a Blitzwing repaint) is yet to become a Powermaster and needs to do that in his original G1 toy, if we are to respect the continuity.
It can be suggested that the Arc's Reformatting is unstable and prone to fade off, if it's not somehow fixed to the Cybertronian body (maybe using an ActionMasterizing TransFixatron).

Great to see Springer and Doubledealer's old school G1 toy designs.
