So as I was without any new projects lately, I decided to start on a new armor which is likely to be worn at Conquest of Mythodea this year. This is the first part of it anyhow. :)
Going to fasten it to the rest of the thing in due time.

This really has what is you 'look' to you pieces, it doesn't feel based around or stuck on some one else's notion of armour.
It looks organic and original.

Thank you very much. :thanks: That's a really nice compliment. :)
I'm very glad it gives that feel to it! It's part of the intention.

wow. this particular piece of the armor made me think a little bit about it. We have already used some other pics from your gallery for inspiration and my clan didn't like it that much saying mostly "good quilted armor protects better, its cheaper, easier to make and looks well too".
But then i saw this shoulder guard and was stunned. This really looks like armor and its amazing.
We prefer "hardcore battles" (don't know any better expression) so i'm thinking of adding some bones and metal sheets for even better look and protection, needlework would be rather my style, but the idea is perfect, thank you.
Mythodea waits for some two years of preparations and training for us to participate, but then i'd love to see this in the real world...
How thick is the leather? I now hesitate how many layers is enough...

Thanks for the cool compliment! :) I'm glad I can be of inspiration to you.
I also prefer armor that has a good semi-solid feel to it.
I think it's also not a necessity for everything to be completely made from leather, you could compromise by using some parts made from leather.
When fighting on Mythodea I prefer good fights too instead of playing foam tag. But I don't cover myself in endless layers of armor to do that. (Besides, it tends to be waaaay too hot for that on Conquest)
This paticular piece varies quite a lot in thickness. The leather itself is about 2 to 3 mm thick and varies from being two layers to 3 or 4. But the laces add up to the thickness quite a lot aswell.
This is also why I havn't used this piece on a scenario yet, it doesn't move too well. But I'm thinking about a solution for that. :)

Beautiful "bark-like" design!

Thank you. :) The design, I think, turned out quite satisfying indeed.
Functional use needs some work as of yet, though.
