no photoshop used besides the text you can verify this (if you have a 64bit os) by clicking download and running the program!

it only works with 1, 2 and 4 logical processors unfortunately due to my shitty multithreading code :blushes:

a core i7 920 with 4 threads (no ht) gets 150k and 77k for the second exes respectively.

Serpinsky Cube? :P

I can do that part with povray. ... but the glitch.... ..hmm.. maybe i need to apply a texture to my camera :/

it's actually icosahedral; there are other renders of it in my gallery that show this better, since the fov is really (too) wide in this render.

as for pov-ray, the 1980s called and they want their ray tracing tech back ;)

I know :(

I was bitching about this on #povray @freenode.
( theres a small consortium of us whom have an epic converstation every 6-or-more months, and half of the comments are "OMG!.. PEOPLE TALKING. WTF?"
)

computers have come forward bazillions of clock speeds, and all i can produce is renders that look 10 years old and take weeks to produce. :|

Unfortunately, {$otherlanguages} are either
1) worse ( YAFRAY )
2) non-free
3) have a crap language ( YAFRAY )
4) have a crap interface ( blender goes here )

:(

you might be interested to check out indigo renderer's capabilities; btw recently i got the chance to visit the author in wellington (see [link] ). now i can see you're gonna raise the crap interface objection here, but mehhh some fights are worth it eh ;)

if you need more motivation to check it out, visit [link]

Hmmm... Could it be that you actually visualized a fractal dimension with this image? It's completely cut in more or less randomly big pieces :)

Maybe, your camera looked into dimension 2.5 instead of 3 xD

nope, it's definitely a forced bug in some very deep part of my code that reaches far into everything ;)

yeah that's the nice thing about graphics programming, often when things are incorrect you get very weird images as a result :)

there's a really great thread on my favourite forum about such rendering bugs: [link]

Sometimes accidents are good... Take penicillin, for example... or this render.

much appreciated :) i might revisit this particular effect once the engine is more developed and is rendering more complex scenes!

Look excellent:) I like the textures, and the colours - especially where the white, brown and blue mix.

thanks :) i can't really take credit for designing it because it was an accident that i just tweaked and worked with, but i'm at least pleased that its appeal isn't as limited as expected.

Only 64-bit you say? Damn you :shakefist: Is non-photorealistic rendering your new thing?

i tried to make a 32bit build but it just doesn't wanna work :/

and actually, photorealistic rendering is my new-old thing (fractals were a diversion), but here i encountered a bug with fun effects!

that's two things i can't take credit for, but thanks ;P the 'concept' is certainly not mine, it's pioneered in music by [link] and has existed in the [link] for a long time, see for example [link]

the "gradient" is sunlight [link] and metal [link]
