Dexter

/ TYPOGRAPHY PORTRAIT TUTORIAL [link] /

Tonight's the night. But I don't think this will happen again. I'm done with typography portraits. I'm totally frustrated, because I did this in Illustrator, but at the end of my work I found out, that if I export it, some 'artifacts' appear. And I tried.. many possible solutions but non of them worked that out. So.. after 3 days in Illustrator I had to go into Photoshop and do the coloring there.

By the way, except the hair I picked up color of every single word from the base image ... but in the end I had to use sort of color overlay in photoshop, so you can imagine, why am I so frustrated (picking of colors took me about 5 hours).

And if I mentioned the hair.. well, here I'm proud. But looking at it now it seems, it's photo. You see, I spent todays afternoon making of this hair through approx. 200 different curves. Only about 10 layers I duplicated... So I tried to make it really realistic, so I can pick up colors later. But.. now it seems too realistic.

Fortunately I can live with that.. but I really hate what happened with the eyes, in Illustrator it looked great, really great, but if I exported (I tried so many ways) it looked awful, it even changed colors (I worked in rgb), so I was forced to use multiple layers overlay.. so you can't see any font in it anymore...

But.. whatever.. I'm glad I'm done with that, even if I wanted to make it different.

Numbers:
~ 3 days of working (25 hours I guess)
~ approx. 500 layers (can't be sure, I did it in Illustrator, so I didn't use usual layers)
~ infinite amount of brain cells destroyed :-D

Note (typography):
~ Blood = Dexter's victims and some quotes from the show
~ Shirt = Quotes from the show and on the right (= Dexter's left) collar - names of characters from show
~ Hair = Bay Harbor Butcher Dark Defender
~ rest of it = just quotes, quotes, infinite quotes
