Description
A NOTE ON THE EDIT: You'll notice it is a little different.Well, recently I was asked to rerender this piece as wall art and in the process I updated it using new skills. Here is the new version - and here is it on the wall. :thumb345230584: Many many thanks to Barry Marshall BMdesigns www.barrymarshalldesign.com and Marek Mihok www.animax3d.sk/ for their invaluable aid - and the use of Marek's render farm (and unidentified friend).
A bit more of a pimp for www.animax3d.sk/ here - they offer a wide range of services including the render farm-ness. Far from being just that though Marek helped me every step of the way, both by suggestions and actual alterations to reduce the somewhat phenomenal rendertime of this piece. He also helped further to get more realistic lighting and did tests in both most recent versions of Vue... he was amazing. I never felt lost or anything. Definitely a big recommendation to anyone out there.
As it says - the Citadel of the Time Lords, on the planet Gallifrey, with views across the Shebogans' wastelands.
I was a little unsure about how to portray the Citadel. In www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHhgzY… it is depicted as being in a steep valley between 2 sets of very large snowy mountains, but in www.google.com.au/imgres?imgur… it is different again, there being a river, but more clusters of buildings. In www.google.com.au/imgres?imgur…, a scene later in-world chronologically, the mountains have flattened out somewhat. Puzzling, eh.
I also had my memories of The Invasion of Time to draw on (not many, okay.) But I remembered the wastelands and how flat it was, yet so close to the Citadel.
The hill in the foreground is Mount Perdition; it is described as having vast slopes covered in red grass. I've also included some "trees leafed in silver".
My citadel model was based on this early concept image for the base section www.google.com.au/imgres?imgur… and this image www.google.com.au/imgres?imgur… for the building detail. Mine doesn't have quite so many narrow buildings, the spire-y looking ones, but if it's an earlier version of the Citadel they may not have been completed yet. The details I have in the Citadel also have not come out well in this image.
There are something like 200 buildings all up in that bubble. DX.
The sky was definitely the easiest part in all this.
"It was beautiful. They used to call it the Shining World of the Seven Systems. And on the continent of Wild Endeavour, in the mountains of Solace and Solitude, there stood the Citadel of the Time Lords. The oldest and most mighty race in the universe. Looking down on the galaxies below, sworn never to interfere, only to watch."
EDIT 08/07/2013: My first Cream of the Crop on Cornucopia3D! Woooo!
