My Bio

I'm a photographer (mainly wildlife, mainly wolves) from Germany and have been photographing wolves for over 20 years now. Starting analog with a Canon AE-1, I made my way over several Olympus compact cameras to a Canon 1Ds Mk III and the EOS 1D X with the 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 L IS USM, 16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM, 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II USM and 400mm f/2.8 L IS II USM lenses that I am working with at present.

I am currently working as a freelance software developer, which keeps me busy to a point where it sadly leaves me with next to no time for photography anymore, or even updating my dA account... Sweat Emoticon

Yes, you pretty much hit the spot there. These are basically the weak spots I see in this photo too. Wish the wolf behind the leader was either more to the right or further in the back - I guess that's wildlife photography, you gotta take what you get.

If wolf two and three swapped positions, with the second to the right and the third right in line, the depth of field would have worked very well. Oh well.

I will definitely do something about the overexposed snow though. My main focus in post processing was keeping the wolves exposed well, but there is still enough dynamic left in the photo allowing me to correct the snow a little more.

The frames... well, yeah, I see that a lot of people don't like these, and I wasn't sure about using the text there, but my experience says the opinions are pretty much split 50%. The corrected version, if there will be one, will be without all those tidbits. :-)

And the logo - well, it's clearly not there to beautify or decorate the image :D It is my signature, a way for people to find the origin of this photo, and find more of my stuff. Of course it wouldn't be there in any printed version. Some people put a watermark over the whole image, and I decided to give you a chance to see the important parts of the image without too many obstructions.

Thanks for your evaluation, happy new year!

You know, it's nice to get compliments and such, but I am in a constant process of evaluating, learning and improving on my photography. Pointing out what you personally perceive the photo is lacking probably helps more than 100 comments saying it's a cool photo. Thanks for taking your time, and happy new year :)

Really interesting critique, thank you for that!
Apart from the depth of field and the angle, everything you mention can still be changed :)

Anyways, these are wolves and not domesticated dogs that have been chained together and lined up artificially, so I would presume that it's hard to compare this setting to sled dogs.

I might use the critique feature more often now - it seems that it's possible to get honest, insightful and constructive comments on dA after all :)

Yes, I am, thanks for asking :-) Just horribly busy.
