The two of them made their way down the stone steps with caution. It was common knowledge that the late king and queen were devious people who surely set up some kind of trap somewhere to stop anyone else from getting down here. They were secretive too, and Bog was certain that this was a secret the two of them had taken to their grave. Understandably the two were both a tad nervous. This was less noticeable in Marianne, but you could spot her gaze occasionally shifting side to side a tad erratically, which Bog knew meant she was nervous.

“So I never- I never met your parents, I don’t really know what they were like other than what my father, and people like him said. I don’t wholly know what to expect.” She admitted. “I don’t like that…”

“I did know them and I’m not sure…” Bog laughed nervously. “We could come up against anything here really…” He finished, shrugging.

“Well that’s comforting…” She snorted, causing both of them to let out nervous giggles as their apprehensive pawpads sounded through the staircase.

When they hit the bottom, the staircase opened up into a large cavern. It looked like a natural formation but it seemed to have been blocked off from the world. In the center of this cavern sat a plinth, and atop it sat a small orb. It looked as if it were made of glass, with swirling clouds in it. It was beautiful. Bog, mesmerised, began to take a step forward, but Marianne snapped a hand in front of him before he could even put his foot down.

“You may be the king but that ain’t gonna stop me calling you a moron Bog. LOOK.” Marianne snapped. “This country finally got a good monarch, don’t get yourself killed!”

She was pointing to the floor and Bog followed her gesture and noticed what appeared to be a pressure plate on the floor. Marianne pulled a ball bearing from her pocket and rolled it across the floor, the moment it hit the pressure plate, flames erupting from unseen holes in the rock.

“Ah… I see… Thanks Marianne… Well if I needed any more sign of your loyalty!” He laughed nervously.

“Thanks Bog…” She replied with an eye roll. “Anyway this cavern seems to be a complete and utter death trap. Proceed with caution you highness.” She snorted.

“Let’s do this, Captain!” He chuckled. “If we die, at least we die together!” He laughed.

The two dodged poison spikes, pit traps and many other hidden traps, mostly due to Marianne being far more perceptive than Bog. He was so thankful he had bought her with him.

When they reached the center, Bog, after checking thoroughly for traps, reached out to take the globe, but was stopped by what felt like glass. He continued trying to grab at it frantically. He needed it! He needed to give it back.

“Bog… Bog stop!” Marianne called, grabbing his arm. “We need to be smart and figure out how to take this down.”

“But we’re so close Marianne…” He cried out. “So close…”

“Bog what is with you? You have been so reckless and desperate. What is wrong?” She asked, crossing her arms.

“I stood by as my parents RUINED this kingdom, and my brother is probably dead because of me! I didn’t even try… I just… I just want to make up for what they did… I-I want to be someone my brother would be proud to know…” He confessed, sighing.

“You’re an idiot, you know that right?” Marianne replied, gently punching him in the shoulder. “You were a kid, you couldn’t do anything, and it isn’t your fault… You realise the kingdom has been referring to you as the best monarch in over a century, right? There will always be people that don’t like you when you’re a monarch, that’s life… Your brother would have been proud of you, and you never know, maybe he is still out there Bog. You don’t know what happened. Now come on, let’s bring this shield down!”

Upon closer examination, the two ascertained that there was something keeping this field up, and that to remove it they needed to destroy that. After a rather extended search they discovered a pillar that seemed to be doing something, and between them managed to take it down, and remove the field. They cautiously grabbed the orb and scattered.

Bog got to work immediately on sealing the passage off. He didn’t want anyone, particularly his kids, to get hurt. Then he and Marianne worked to find where the kid whom this belonged to originally, lived.

Once they had found their location, Bog and Marianne tracked to their location. It was a quaint home, with some rather pretty topiary in the front garden. They paced up the the front door, and gave it a gentle knock. There was a pause, before the door opened.

“Your Majesty. What can I do for you?” They asked curtly.

“We have something of yours, and it is important that we chat. May we come in?” He asked.

“Sure…” They responded curiously.

They sat down and offered Bog and Marianne a seat. Bog pulled out the orb and handed it over.

“I am so sorry my parents took this from you. Your family history matters to me. This is yours and I would like you have it back. I am willing to compensate you to protect this. You will be a protected citizen and be able to attend council meetings as an important member of my royal court. Your family matters, and you were one of the people harmed most by my family…” Bog announced.

“W-Well that’s a lot to process if I’m honest…” They responded. “But I mean if we talk more and work out the details, we can probably come to an agreement?” They suggested, eyes wide.

“Well if you are available now I have cleared my schedule today. Anything you need or want to know, please ask, and I am your humble servant. After all, what is a king but a servant to his subjects?” He responded, causing Marianne to let out a laugh.

“You sound so posh oh my god!” She cackled, and the other bean cracked a smile.

“I think this can work…” They finished.
