The best description I can give of myself is the perception you form of me yourself. I am content to be an enigma.

Interests
Stolen from RobertMakes. It seems like a good prompt to make a (first) journal entry for.

How long have you been on DeviantArt?
About 2.5 years.

What does your username mean?
Lunar = the moon, and things it signifies: the night, the forest, the sea, time and tide, dreams and visions, madness, caprice, nonsense; a soft and gentle light that shines in darkness, reflecting a bright and blinding sun.
Smith = one who uses these things to create crafted work.

Describe yourself in three words.
Whimsical.
Secretive.
Pretentious.

Are you left or right handed?
Right.

What was your first deviation?
Dapper Crabs by Lunarsmith
Still one of my favourites. :D (Some of the others were drawn earlier, though.)

What is your favourite type of art to create?
Medium: Pencil. I am lazy and unskilled with computer. :P
Subject: By quantity, apparently the answer is "people", at least by what I've uploaded... The piles of sketchpaper in my room contain higher percentages of eeriness, fantasy science, and general whimsy, though, most of which I just don't feel is good enough to scan.

If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
Realism or expressionism. But I haven't even mastered my own style yet... whatever you'd call it.

What was your first favourite?
That's a really hard question because I didn't get an account until well after I was frequenting other peoples' galleries, at which point I went back and favourited a bunch of stuff that I remembered. :P This is the oldest one I remember, though.
the resistance by rikkitikki

What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
Surreal art, easily. The Psychogenic folder consists of nothing but, and it spills into most of the others as well.

Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
Uh. Uh. I... I'm pretty much continuously awestruck by hypnothalamus, juliedillon, yuumei, and Jon-Lock, any time any of them posts anything. So one of them.

If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
Uh. Uh. Uh.
Artists I met here whom I want to meet in person: DrawDrone, JohannesVIII
Artists I was already friends with before following them here, but still haven't met: A-Liddell-Faerie, BisectedBrioche, eagleoftheninth, Yuanchosaan
Artists I ACTUALLY HAVE MET IN PERSON 0_0: rivenwanderer, RobertMakes, shoomlah

How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
Sorry; no stories.

What are your preferred tools to create art?
A simple mechanical pencil, and GIMP. I'm learning how to tablet, but I have a perfectionist streak that won't let me publish anything that doesn't meet a certain level of quality. -_-

What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
Public transit, I guess?

What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
No stories to tell here, either.

MAG 106: A Matter of Perspective

“Of one thing he was already certain; he would find that nothing was waiting outside the bubble to kill him.” - Tom Godwin, The Nothing Equation. (A purer form of cosmic horror than just about anything Lovecraft ever wrote. Fight me.)

Afternoon Shade
I ran across the term "freedressing" a few days ago, as an alternative to "crossdressing", and latched onto it instantly - I like that it defies the implication that clothing has a gender, and it seems to be a better statement for someone like Jacob, who keeps an assortment of dresses and skirts in his normal wardrobe but isnt remotely trying to present himself as a woman.

Apparently this is the first picture I've uploaded of Jacob and Bethany together as a couple, but I've drawn them separately several times before. (I'm going to claim that Jacob keeps changing his haircut.) This is for the Summer Fun contest at No-Gender-Norms.

Behemoth Chimaera
I think the one of the secrets to surrealism is to establish commonality between wildly different things, and then illustrate them as identical.

I find interobjects fascinating - a kind of object that only exists in dreams, which has the properties and identities of multiple objects. A big friendly seal which is also a boat, or a baby which is also a mobile phone. They reveal something about how human minds conceive of categories, which has huge significance because of how fundamental categorisation is to literally everything - colours, emotions, constellations, subjects in school, races, genders, public vs private, work vs play, us vs them, this vs that. It also shows, I think, the artificiality and arbitrariness of strict rules and hard boundaries; the mind is more than capable of understanding and contemplating objects with an ambiguous or intermediary nature, and it seems that "regularising" such things into accepted categories is a learned behaviour.
