It's been a while since I posted and here I go with a bunch of stuff all at once. What can I say - these days I tend to work in spurts. Last summer I managed to write a novella which got published as an ebook (so stoked about that - working on the second). It was very exciting to work with an honest to goodness editor, and I am very happy with the results.
Since then I went on a tentacle drawing spree, most of which I have now posted here. I drew them freehand with pencil, then inked them with various fine pointed black felt/gel pens - I believe I bought out my local shops of their selections trying to find just the right ones. Then scanned
It's been a while, the last couple of months passed much too quickly. The worst part is not having had time to do much with art as it has all been work, work work. And the kind of frustrating work that doesn't seem to pay off at least not in the short run.
In the meantime, I did get a chance to spend a little time with people I love and met new to care about. I got to help someone in dire need, in the process got to foster a cute new cat. However I am now in a bit of a dilemma while dealing with the aftermath of the rescue but such is life. No good deed goes unpunished, as they say.
On more art related news, I entered one of my pieces, "Fl
Maybe because it's spring, or because I'm turning 49 in June (Crazy, I know!) or who knows why, but I'm cleaning out a lot of accumulated junk from nooks and crannies in my life - both figuratively and literally - these days. As part of that process I am re-discovering artwork that had been stored away for a number of years; some I had forgotten about all together (Neptune) and some I hadn't but the memories were not quite up to the real thing (Ophelia in Red).
It is an interesting exercise this archeological dig in one's own past. Both emotionally and intellectual taxing yet invigorating at once because I am reminded of how time has passed
Today I decided to add a few of the 'commercial' photography I have helped create. These product shots were art directed by myself and shot by my sister. we did them for Caramoomel Natural Fine Food Creations, our family's business. The business is how we earn our living, and as we run it on a very tight budget, we pretty much do as much of the work as we can ourselves. Good thing we both had post secondary education on the Arts :)
I posted these here because I am very proud of how they turned out, and in the website we have to use cropped versions so these full frame versions rarely see the light of day. We had a lot of fun over a 4, 5 day
So far 2011 is the year of battles. It's amazing sometimes how many obstacles life can throw your way and you still have to keep going. I bring this up not because I want pity, but because it helps to vent. I have the 'luck' to be saddled with both depression & anxiety, these conditions are chronic and at times crippling. Thanks to some medication and continuous cognitive therapy I keep them at bay, returning to my art is one of the tools I use which I love because the self healing is awesome.
However that is not my main battle. In my mundane life I work at my family business on our farm, and the last few years have not been
