I'm not a huge Ariel fan, considering my feminist views and, uh, her less than feminist presentation, But Still the movie holds a special, wholly nostalgic place in my heart.

And I do like Part Of Your World, simply because, standing alone, it's really not that bad. It's about wanting more, and that's universal. (Unlike wanting to completely change yourself to be with someone you've met ONCE).

This was me, trying to get out of my recent rut. While I wish I'd picked something a little less embarrassing than Miss "Traded My Voice In For A Vagina", I'm really happy with how it turned out. Now to completely change her so I can put it in my portfolio.

Nice drawing. The hair is nicely drawn, I like the different shades.
Do I know what makes your Arielle better than the original Arielle? She has a normal waist. The disney-Arielle looks anorexic.

Well, yeah. Ariel has a "less than feminist presentation." But she wanted to be human looooooong before she met Eric. Just think about how long it took to collect the stuff in her trove/cavern thing!

But....YOUR ART! 'Tis amazing! I especially like her pose.

Very nice representation of the scene! I like the sense of longing. Yeah, I definitely see the movie differently now than I did when I was four and obsessed with it. Have you seen this [link] YouTube video? It's hilarious (even though it does feel a bit like my childhood memories are being crushed =D). Oh, and of course Second City's Disney Princess series: [link]

When I was little, I thought, "Wow, Ariel is so strong and independent, and isn't prejudiced against humans like her father is!" And for a four-year-old, the whole love-at-first-sight thing made perfect sense.

Oh well. At least it's a nice bit of fairy-tale escapism and 80's/90's nostalgia.

I love this pic! :D I actually do love Ariel and The Little Mermaid, it was one of my favorite movies when I was younger. I like her mainly because she was the first Disney princess that didn't fit into the princess mold (until she was forced to due to advertising and little girls). (Now I'm going to spout mindless dribble! The Little Mermaid was actually a Hans Christian Anderson before, and instead of trading her voice, it felt like she was always walking on knives and like a sword was being shoved through her stomach. And she could never be a mermaid again, whether she won the prince's love or not. And then the prince was an evil bastard. Anyway, I'm done. :P)

Ugh, double-post... :ohmygod:

To be fair, though, Disney left out the whole part about The Little Mermaid actually wanting an immortal soul, not just blindly wanting to be human because it sounded fun. Oh, and it was a common sailor the mermaid princess fell in love with, not a prince per se.

I don't think she's the most, err... balanced(?) of the Disney princesses (on the contrary, I find Kida from "Atlantis" the best "princess"), but I'm very much nostalgic and still love her even 19 years later.

So pretty and lovely! She isn't the best symbol for women, but she was also the greedy semi-autobiographical representation of a male writer's desire for great love. ;O This piece is great though.

To be fair, she was obsessed with the surface world even BEFORE Eric came along. He was just the hot piece of ass that sealed the deal.

.......but yeah I don't USUALLY look to Disney films for really good female role models.

I bet you're a huge Bell fan then huh ;)

Even when I was a kid I was like, "YEAH! Go Bell! Teach that Gaston that you aren't gonna settle for being some macho's little wife!"

But yeah, even with your dislike of her, this is a pretty painting of Ariel :D
