Description
Saul Morrow from Wolfchild.
Part 17/24 of my Amiga tribute project >3
Heh, I really wish this game didn't need an introduction, but let me introduce to you, Wolfchild
Hooo boy, could I talk about this game for hours |D
Damn, if I didn't randomize the charas for this project, this would be the first I'd do... hell, I would even stick multiple entries for all I care XD
Yeah, Wolfchild happens to be one of my biggest favs among video games, and for good reasons too. No, it's not just because the main character is a wolfman (and it's wolfman, not werewolf, he's a genetically altered "chimera"), I mean, lots of games have werewolf/wolfman charas and it's not like all are my favs. Wolfchild just had the charm and the gameplay to keep me entertained.
First, the graphics, I say it a lot about Amiga games, but the design was really breathtaking, from a masterpiece of an airship, to a run down jungle, followed by a bug-infested temple up to a futuristic fortress, each and every stage was brilliantly designed (especially the temple... damn, so many animated details it blows your mind how long they were workin' on it), of course, the music isn't any less than awesome as well, it might not be the best OST ever made, but it's catchy, upbeat and just enjoyable to listen to (again, the temple got the best track IMO), and of course, the overall gameplay, very responsive, fast-paced, challenging yet not frustrating, it's pretty much one of the best pieces of pure platformer action that you could come across (think castlevania-style platformer rather than Mario XD).
To top it off, excluding the Mega-CD version, all ports were downgraded to some extend, both visual and audio wise. The SNES version was hands down the worst port (in other words, the fabled SNES couldn't handle the whole extent of this game's awesomeness), especially the new OST which was mediocre at best, and the Genesis port was as close to the original as it got (before the Mega-CD version came out that is). SO yeah, yay Amiga >D
So what else can I say... I could really go all fanboy about it, describe each and every detail, and I actually cleared it over 50 times (the only game I ever cleared more times would be Robocop, but that game is special for me >3), well, I could mention I had a tough time deciding the setting, first I thought about drawing Saul in his human form with his wolfman form as a silhouette behind him, then I thought about drawing both versions doing their attacks (as human Saul can only punch while his wolfman version throws a variety of fireballs), but finally decided to go with his wolfman version throwing some fireballs around. Hope it pleases you guys |3
Other parts of the project - Shadow Of The Beast, Shadow Fighter, Zool, The Chaos Engine, Superfrog, Skeleton Krew, The Speris Legacy, Flashback, Agony, Brutal: Paws of Fury, Fightin' Spirit, Ruff 'N' Tumble, SwitchBlade, Lionheart, The Lost Vikings, Brian The Lion, Wolfchild, Gods, Entity, Franko: The Crazy Revenge, Hired Guns, Turrican, The Killing Game Show, Yo! Joe!
