'Fave-bombing' EDIT

Journal Entry: Sun Aug 30, 2009, 2:14 PM

Ok, it seems some people misunderstood what I meant on that journal. I was not bitching about fave-bombing. I don't even care when people fave-bomb my gallery. I love getting favorites and I'm the one who demans people comment before faving my work.

Favorites are always welcome and I appreciate them. The point of my last journal was to discuss what was in the person's mind who fave-bombed AND didn't watch. Did they want to get my attention? Are they the type that just likes coming to dA to just fave stuff they like without thinking?
I don't know, I just find it ilogical that someone fave-bombs your gallery (meaning they really liked your work) but didn't watch you to see more in the future.

No, this is not a "OMG I NEED people to watch me I want attention!" Just wanted to know what was in the person's mind. Curiosity, you know?

Oh and check this out crazyfreak.deviantart.com/jour…

Now I gotta go do college's homework. Peace.

Old post:
Recently I've had a few people fave-bombing my gallery and running. By "fave-bombing" I mean faving, like, 85% of my gallery and running away, not leaving a single comment and not watching me.
They liked my gallery to the point of faving almost all of it, and then don't watch because they think there are no chances at all I'll do anything they like in the future? I mean, what are the changes (and the logic) of it happening?

Do they think that fave-bombing an artist's gallery is going to get their attention and get them to visit their galleries? Well, they're not gonna get a pageview from me, because I rarely check the galleries of people who fave-bomb mine.
Or maybe they're just don't care about this watching thing. Either one or another.

I don't feel flattered when people do that to my gallery. I see tons of  the "*insert username here* added xdeviation to their favorites" from the same person and think "okay?" I have no idea why they liked my work, what they liked on it, anything. It just seems their fingers were itching and pressed the +fav button without thinking.

Not that I mind, at all, I just find it...stupid.

Oh, check this out crazyfreak.deviantart.com/jour…

Phew, that turned out longer than I expected. Sorry about that.

I don't really sign up to follow an artist, but I do favoutrite the work that I like. I am not the type who uses the features, unless they are neccessary. It isn't that I dislike an artist, I just don't think that it's neccessary to sign up to a favourite artist. I favourite depending on whether or not I like a particular image, and the artists that I do like the work of, I have memorized their usernames. So it really isn't a neccessary thing for me.

There are certain artists who I've faved a large majority of their work, or maybe all their work of a certain type/theme. If I do though, I try to also remember to add them to my list of friends. I'll admit there are times when maybe I didn't, but should have, but I try to remember the best I can.

I guess for me, I don't mind if someone faves a lot of my works, and doesn't comment or watch, but that's just me, and I also understand those who do mind.

Hi, my name is Guilty!

Speaking as someone who has 8 babillion favorites ^^;

Sometimes I'll search, say, "Roy and Riza" (^_^) and I'll end up faving like 30 pictures in an hour, not realizing that 11 of them were from the same artist. DA has this nice, fandangled "oh, so you like this person? Watch them!" thingie, but that rarely comes up for me. Maybe I'm just weird o.o;

Now usually, if I notice this person makes up 80% of my favorited things, I'll watch them. I mean, it only makes sense. HOWEVER, for some people I like, I've chosen not to watch them - generally because they upload g34904ut4309tj34 pictures a day (and no, not sketch dumps or WIP's, zillions of photo's and fully rendered drawings) and my inbox has 120^6 things in it by them on a daily basis. o_o; Yeah, ok, a SLIGHT exaggeration but lol.

I'm weird o.o;

To be honest, I've never even considered (or even heard of) 'fave bombing' and how an artist might feel about it. In the future, I'll be more mindful of favoriting 4904830842 things from a person, as opposed to just watching them (+ favoriting ^^)

Well, I have almost 1000 favorites. About the "you like this artist? The watch them" notice from dA, for some reason they removed it.

Well, there have been quite a few instances where artists just go through passing phases of art styles...so maybe they got what they wanted of you, figuring you'd never touch upon what they like again...who knows?

But then there's the people who make up alternate accounts to flame with...and adding faves makes it look like the account is established...despite the creation date.

And even then, there's probably a good deal of people who go and have way too many people's works to look at (possibly because they don't edit their settings to cut down on the deviations posted).

I would just say, this is like asking how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop...we'll never really know.

I got what you meant by your journal? You didn't sound like you were complaining to me, just wondering why you get a drive by fav sometimes. It's not a weird thing to wonder... I don't mind the favs, but at the same time it's like, "okaaaay?"

ya I've gotten a couple of those too. They take me completely off guard and I tend to get a kick out of them. But it does tug at my curiosity as to why someone would go out of there way and fav over 50 deviations 0_0

Oh well, dont let it bug you too much ^^

I really don't care about the fav bombs heck they promote your whole gallery into their favourites. A comment won't do that! Seriously be happy that you're actually populair. Other people who aren't as populair like you would find you pretty much whining. Appreciate the little things people give to you. Atleast they take time looking at your whole gallery.

I don't think you got what I meant. I'm not whining, I don't give a crap when someone fave-bombs my gallery. I do appreciate all the faves I get, but I just keep wondering what the person was thinking when fave-bombing my gallery and running, not leaving a single comment or watching me. If they liked my gallery so much to fave-bomb it, it'd make sense they watch me to see more of my work in the future.

Some people mistunderstood what I meant with this journal. Some have even apologised to me, when they really didn't need to.

They either already watched you, too busy watching, don't feel like watching you and skip to another ones page.

I'm not even going to try and think about what people are thinking of my artwork. Good that you edited your journal.

Well you'd think they'd watch the person they fave-bombed so they can fave-bomb their gallery more in the future xD

And I think it's important to know what people think of your artwork, especially if you want to pursue an art career.

ah maybe thats the difference between me. I don't want an art career I want a real estate career. The fanart people fav because it's fanwork. The original work however is better. Btw why don't you go to conceptart if you truelly want to know what people think. It's a way better site than Deviantart.

I've gotten that as well sometimes, but honestly I never bothered to think about the reasons XD (I think I'm pretty careless...).
It may be also people that watched you before and didn't had the time to check the gallery back then and do now (I sometimes do that)

I never thought of that possibility... It makes sense. But I think that after favinf an entire gallery, it'd be polite to leave at least a comment on the artist's front page. I've once gotten a comment from someone apologysing for fave-bombing my gallery and saying they love my art xD That was cool.

Usually if I 'fave-bomb' if I do, I usually watch the person but... =\. These people are stupid. I don't really like people who fav only to get attention =\.

I don't really care when people fave-bomb and run. It just doesn't add anything to me, you know? I just delete the messages and move on. But it does make sense when someone fave-bomb and watch - it shows the person liked your work for real and wants to see more.

(Though that's probably just an issue if you primarily draw pervy stuff ^^;.)

But yeah, it's awful, but these days I pretty much just Select All - Select X - Remove all Fave/Watch notices. Not that they're not appreciated, but there just isn't enough time in the day to track down all the fave-bombers and yell at 'em for not commenting :D.

LOL Yeah, I really don't know what's worse - fave-bombing and running, or getting that type of comment! I pity you xD

When I arrived on dA and didn't have many watchers, it was completely possible to thank every single person who watched me / faved my work. Now it's just too many messages and lack of time to check them all. When a comment stands out to me, I usually thank the person or give a more "thoughtful" reply.

I know... it sucks. But you'll get used to it... sadly... some
losers just make accounts for fun or whatever to grab art
and run. I used to, but I wised up after a while. Really, just
the fact that morons go around and use up good account
names and just leave them to rot... THAT ticks me off...

Heh! You probably hate me now for what I did a while ago... ^^;

I have nothing against people who create accounts just to fave artworks. That is, if they fave and also comment or watch the artists. That shows that maybe they are not good at making art, but they appreciate the work of others and like to collect them.

I don't remember if you ever fave-bombed my gallery. I don't really pay attention to the usernames of people who do that.

True. Like me, I suck but I admire other's art. But
alot of the people I watch won't even comment back...
I find that a little pointless... but I still comment.
I mean the people who just make an account and
not do ANYTHING with it. Just leave it... or spam
people with it...

I don't think I've ever 'fave-bombed' anyone's galleries
so I haven't to your's. *cough* I admit, I don't fave
all your art, but I like your style! owo Please don't

Sometimes the person gets too many comments and it's hard (or almost impossible) to reply to them all. About accounts created just for the sake of being...created, I find it stupid. Many good names have been wasted by these people who create empty accounts because they have nothing better to do.

No one has the obligation to fave my entire gallery, you know >_>

That sounds really annoying, but who cares? A bunch of faving won't destroy the artwork.
Those who launch fav-bombing won't have any good relationship with the artist. They're just kind of crazy. I think many people fav too much. When you have too many "favorites", they lose the meaning and aren't really your "favorites" anymore.

It's easy to go around dA faving all the work you like. From time to time you got to go through your favorites and "clean" your list a bit, you know?

I've had the same thing done to my gallery. It gets annoying after awhile, but you live with it.

However, it REALLY gets annoying when someone keeps adding a single deviation to their faves cuz appparently they like it so much. Seriously, it gets very very annoying.

And yeah, I pretty much just delete the fave bomb activity messages, but if I find that they left a comment, I might just see who they are, cuz they were actually courtious enought to give me feedback and not just fave-and-run.

Though sadly, when I go over to one of those user's pages, I oftentimes find them to be what we call a "fave-whore" who goes around faving crap and never posts any of their own deviations.

Well, they liked a lot of your work and that's how they expressed it. No biggie.

dA's also, for some reason, removed the thing that asks if you want to watch someone after X number of faves, and instead you have to do all kinds of other crap (or maybe I just haven't found some easier way that isn't obvious - but then why isn't it obvious?). A lot of people would rather just fave what they like and be about their way than let several pages load and scroll through a massive list that freezes up their browser just do to one simple action that should require nothing but a single friggin' button press. -_- Especially when they've already had to load many other pages to view all the artwork. It's just needless hassle, and I know that personally I don't have the best hardware or connection to be blasting my laptop with all that resource sapping. Lags up quickly.

Just a possible explanation, as I've dropped a couple fave bombs myself. One of my victims commented here in fact. :giggle: But can you really be annoyed that someone loves your work? That shocks me. I did watch this particular person though, in my defense.

Either way, faves are always a good thing.

If I really like someone's gallery to the point of faving it almost entirely, it's logical to watch them so I'll get to see more of their work. And dA's changed the watchlist that freezed - now it's much better and more simple. And yeah, I wonder why they removed the "ask if you want to watch" thing.

I don't get annoyed, it just get me thinking what was in the person's mind. So yeah, you watched the person, so it makes sense you fave-bombed their gallery lol
