Orbiting Mars

Another picture I've made in the spirit of Red Mars, the powerful novel by Kim Stanley Robinson.
We are looking at Mars from a manned spacecraft. The 200km wide view is on Ophir Chasma, a region of Valles Marineris.

The photos used for this image are both from NASA :
-The ISS cupola shot during STS-130 (2010) [link]
-Ophir Chasma shot by Viking 1 in 1976 [link]

As always, I made the photomanipulation with GIMP on Linux-Ubuntu.

You've heard about that space tourist guy who now wants a mars mission, right?

yes sure. Yesterday I've watched the live broadcast of their conference. Pretty scary project -humanly speaking- but maybe it's gonna work fine and will be full of knowledge on what we can achieve next. I'm just a bit afraid the size of the spacecraft will feel way too small for the travelers for such a long trip...
