For no more real reason than having decided to try out a stylus for my Hudl, I downloaded a couple of art apps and decided to have a go at things again.

I've never stopped sketching, as people who know me will confirm, but it has mostly been in and around the notes for the novel I'm trying to write.

Still, I've quietly missed DA, so starting to post again kind of feels like coming home. Who'd have thought, eh?

Beetling along

Another friday, another chance to work from home through the wonders of technology - its largely data cleansing at this part of the project so breaks to scan sketches today I think :)

An interesting couple of days

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 26, 2009, 7:34 AM
So, I thought I had the 'flu or at best a cold, and then I spotted the growing pink discolouration on my leg and noticed the stiffness and sensitive skin. As I've only just moved to the area I'm not registered with a GP, so had to traipse down to the local A&E dept

Being an insulin-dependent diabetic and having told them I believed I had a recurrence of cellulitis they whisked me in and in under ten minutes was fitted with a cannula and having bloods taken while I went through things with the doc. Diagnosis was confirmed and IV antibiotics administered, but fortunately I got there early enough that I haven't needed to be admitted, and have been allowed back home with a small mountain of antibiotics to take for the next ten days. So tomorrow its off to the local GP practice to see if they'll let me in...

Should I be worried that I'm seeing stuff like this as routine irritations in my weekly activities?

Finding my feet

Journal Entry: Thu Jun 25, 2009, 2:12 PM
Well, its been eventful of late - the divorce came through, jobs have been and gone and come again, I bounced straight into another relationship straight from the divorce and now that's passed - so I figure its time to take stock and - to use that somewhat cliched phrase - find out who I really am before wreaking havoc on someone else's life.

I'm being somewhat harsh on myself I know, but I've been neglecting my art of late, and seeing as its got me through some hard times over the last few years it seems only right to bend my attentions back to it - to be playful and at the same time try to stretch myself a little, to take a bit more time and care with some pieces without over-working them.

It of course waits to be seen as to whether I can manage it or if this is just an enthusiastic flash in the pan.

New Work (At Last)

Persistence has paid off with a three month contract (with possible extension after that) working for a local authority near the site of the London Olympics as an IT Project Manager - finally signed off at the Job Centre and have agreed a start date with the clients so we're just shuffling the paperwork now.

Now I'm getting started with sorting out potential future contracts for after the three months - how's that for optimism in these constrained times?

Tired

Fri Mar 13, 2009, 7:34 AM
Nil Mortifi Sine Lucre

Its been a hectic few weeks - job hunting, interviews - oh, and a bout of tonsilitis that lost me my voice for the best part of a week and a half. Still, all better now, just lethargic as my body rebuilds its reserves - some form of post-viral fatigue or something I guess.

On the plus side I've been able to get some new sketching and scanning done, and have even got round to connecting my combi-scanner/printer wirelessly to the network so I'm not tied to it when feeling inspired to muck about on the laptop :)

Trying Times

Sun Dec 7, 2008, 7:39 AM
Nil Mortifi Sine Lucre

lots of work pressure as ever, but I'm forcing myself to start making time to get back to drawing and sketching and commenting - between sickness, moving house, job uncertainties and divorce I've hardly stopped moving it seems, and I'm definitely feeling the lack of involvement here. So...

...feeling somewhat like a prodigal son I'm inching back to DA hoping that those knife-sharpening sounds are not aimed for me 0.o

Six months' contract to keep me off the streets in many senses of the phrase - but still looking for something permanent which I can then use to fund moving out to a place of my own...

Fun, fun...

expect some newly scanned stuff soon

At long last, they're all working again - now I'll start going through the non-featured items that I haven't got round to categorising yet.

I love it really.

in other news, I'm house/flat hunting at the moment, hence the somewhat slowed output - lots of things in semi-packed states...

Still getting through these 'lost' pieces - which mostly seem to be older ones from before the need to separate keywords with spaces rather than commas. The Horror/Macabre and Phoenix Galleries are now fixed - working my way down from top to bottom, then I'll start through the general browse and see what I've missed.

*phew*

Deletions and Tidy-Ups

There seem to have been some sort of corruption in the databases used here and I'm getting all sorts of images not showing or only showing in full view - so I'm deleting a whole host of material if I can't recall what it was and have the original immediately to hand, with the intention of then identifying the gaps and tweaking to repost...

Unnatural Service will resume as quickly as possible...

Job Hunting

Thu Jun 26, 2008, 2:02 PM
Nil Mortifi Sine Lucre

I've managed to secure a six month contract which should see me through to the end of the year and give me a chance to move out of the once-marital home.

Its been a bit of a rollercoaster couple of days really - clearing my desk and then receiving confirmation of the new job - it means I effectively have July off, so I intend to have a summer this year *looks menacingly at the clouds*

10,000 page views :)

Thank you all very much - it *is* appreciated. I've never set out to hawk my wares around the place - but its still good to know that people like what I do enough to come visit and have a look around.

I'm in the middle of revising all the featured pieces into a new folder structure - I think I've done the most recent three or four hundred now 0.o

Anyway - I just wanted to mark the occasion. Its particularly gratifying when so many other things in life are in flux and doubt right now (marriage break-up, losing job - nice combination) - it gives me that little reassuring boost :)

So again - thank you

Nearly May

Time is speeding past and dragging at the same time - and the job hunting continues apace - and I seem to be enjoying a stream of inspirations on the art front, along with success with some new (to me) techniques and confidence.

Mustn't complain. It says so in the Non Disclosure Document I had to sign...

Job Hunting

Sun Mar 16, 2008, 12:28 PM
Nil Mortifi Sine Lucre

All change and fun and games chez Ludd1te - work is laying people off and offering a nice incentive package to take voluntary redundancy, and with the marriage breaking up I could do with a good lump sum to put down as a deposit on a new place, so the timing, while it could be better, could also be far worse.

So art is taking a bit of a back seat at the moment to job hunting, but as you can see, there's the odd piece making its way through.

In other news I have a commission to do a few pieces for the Lorien Trust (a UK LARP group that my brothers are involved in) so once those are done I'll post a few of those up too.

Right... back to the grind...
