You ever have one of those days...

Fri Jul 8, 2005, 11:55 AM
...where you just wish you could hit the rewind button and make it all over again?

This morning the cats all showed up and I was happy, so I let them all into the house to eat.  The kittens had grown all thin because they hadn't been coming in, since I had Hank inside the house and he's afraid of cats. O_o''  Anyway, I let the cats out one at a time until only Dipstick remained inside...then I carefully scooped her up and put her outside.  Two minutes later a loud commotion breaks out out front. I rush out and find two german sheperds on my front porch after my kitten. I chase them off and Dipstick runs under the house, thinking she's all right, I turn to go find where the dogs took off too (yeah, they're big dogs, but I want to know where they live so I can chew out the owners), but just as I get across the street I hear a pathetic meow and rush back over to my yard.  Black Jack has climbed a tree and is crying pitifully, but there's nothing I can really do for him because he's too high up.  Dipstick, though, is hurt.  Badly as it seems that she can't walk. I move a piece of wood out of the way and grab her up and bring her inside.  She's in a lot of pain and I call my mom and wake my brother so he can go find Elvis and Black Jack.  Mom comes home but by then it's too late and Dipstick dies soon after.

A few hours later, apparently, the dogs came back...we had Elvis inside, but since Black Jack had scrambled out of the tree and hid under the house we figured he was still under there.  However, the dogs got him too and broke his back. I didn't even get a chance to get out there before he was dead.  God! Watching him twitch...

I want to scream at those dogs and strangle them. I want to rip their owners appart for letting there dogs run loose and not even making an attempt to keep them in their yard. I want to cry because there was nothing I could do to help ease my little babies' passing...especially Black Jack's at least I held Dipstick in the end, though I don't know what good it really did.  I feel so sorry for Gee-gee, the momma, she'll be all confused as to what happened to her babies and now Elvis doesn't have any body to play with any more.  I'm feeling so bad because my parents just got home from their vacation and this happens.

I just want to go back to bed and wake up and everything be like it was. I want everything that happened today to just be one fucked up nightmare.

My god, that's awful. Absolutely awful. The owners of those dogs should exercise a bit more caution- it's not fair that you had to lose not just one but two cats because of their inability to keep their own animals secured. Good grief. I'm sorry, dude. I can't imagine how horrible that must have been to see.

*nods* It was bad. The kittens didn't have any blood on them...no open wounds, but that just made it harder for me to handle because, at least in Dipstick's case, there's no telling what happened to them. It seemed as though all Dipstick had was a couple of broken legs, but I'll never know what those dogs did to her internally or if it was just the shock and the pain was too much for her to handle.

Oh my God! I dont even know what to say! I mean, I could say I'm sorry and I understand and all that stuff people say to another person when this kind of stuff happens but I dont know what good it would do... and I DON'T understand, not completely - I cant, because this has never happened to me... But God... I cant even imagine... But I completely know the feeling of wanting to rewind a day or a week or a month or even a year... And right now I wish that you could do that... you deserve that privelage more than I think I ever have... I've only ever lost one pet and it was planned... I'm so sorry that you had to lose a bunch of them all in one go like that... I'll be here to talk if you ever want or need to because it sounds like we both love animals just as much... You'll be in my thoughts...

I think just knowing that some body out there cares is enough. God knows, I've seen very little compassion here lately. What's really sad is that, even though I want to retaliate. To rip these dogs to shreds because what they did was just too human. I can't! I'd be thrown in jail for animal cruelity. My two four month old kittens are dead and I can't even stop them from hurting other animals or even children...it's funny how the laws work. If you saw a child being injured or killed by an animal or another human, you'd be allowed to injure them or kill them in order to save the child. However, if an animal on your property is being attacked and you injure or kill a human or animal you can be arrested for it. O_o It makes no logical sense.

No, it doesnt... I think maybe if you had enough witnesses to say it was called for then maybe you could call it a case of self defense... But I guess its too late for that. God, I cant even believe the owners of those dogs. I mean, I own a German Shepherd who is one of the sweetest dogs ever, but I will be the first to admit that the breed can be very dangerous if not raised and trained properly. I believe that most domestic animals can be friendly, well ajusted pets but only if their owners play a major part in that and you ALWAYS have to be a little more careful with certain breeds. Personally, I think you could make a case against the owners for not controling their animals. They are endangering the public. Who's to say those dogs wouldnt do the same thing to a little kid or even an adult next time?

*nods* The dog catcher isn't very pleased with these people either...as he's got an amazing soft spot for animals as well. He left a note on their door, don't know what good it'll do. I think, given that technically I'm incapable of defending myself properly against a dog much less two of them, that no matter the amount of witnesses as long as I were to kill the dog and make it believable that the dog was going to attack me, then I think I could probably get off easily. Still, it's a damned shame that the dogs' owners just couldn't tie them up. Would have saved a lot of heartache in the end. :(

I agree. I honestly dont know what the people who own these kinds of animals are thinking half the time! I cant tell you how many times I've seen a dog act aggressively/attack another dog on NEUTRAL territory even or one of those same agressive dogs try to go after another animal that is essentailly incapable of protecting itself against the attack. If you have an agressive dog it SHOULD NOT BE OUT IN PUBLIC UNLEASHED AND UNSUPERVISED! What is is going to take to get people to realize this?

Hmm...I don't know. I know that if a dog is bound and determined to get out that they'll find a way, no matter what. Annie is perfect example of that! We have a high hurricane fence. The gate is secured. There are posts nailed into the ground at the edge of the fence and both dogs have on shock collars...which both the fence and the collar are turned up to maximum power and yet she still gets out. She should have had the crap shocked out of her, but she's a masochistic bitch and I think she actually likes it!

Geeze! O_O! Actually, I think my dog is a bit masochistic as well... she'll eat bees and I KNOW it hurts her because she gets this look of "Ow! OW!!! OOOOWWWW!!!" on her face and kida thrashes her head but then when it's all over she'll go eat onother one. ... I don't get it.
