This day, August 7th, like so many others began with the tolling of the twelve o'clock hour. Like so many, it had it's ups and downs and loops and pulls and at the end of this day we breathed a sigh of relief for making it through in one piece or at least alive. Not many get to say that though.
The space shuttle Discovery is to touch down on earth in the early hours of Monday and my prayers are with the crew, in hopes...high hopes...that we will not see a repeat of Columbia.
Peter Jennings died and it was announced earlier tonight. While, obviously, I never knew him, he began his ABC Nightly news broadcasting career the year of my birth and that he won't even be around to even influence the newer batch of news casters is a bit staggering. To have a man that was welcomed into your home almost every night, even if it was just through the television screen, to tell you what happened in the world as he precieved it for the past 22 years die is almost like loosing a rather beloved uncle. I knew that he had lung cancer and I knew his chances were slim, but damn...just remember people. Everyday you get up. Realize that it could be your very last sunrise; breakfast; early morning paper and innumerable other things. Don't let it get you down though, enjoy the smell of those eggs and the taste of that bacon. Take your time doing the crosswords and find a new way to work or school just for the heck of it and remember Mister Jennings and all that he did to bring the news to us.
However, I would like to give those that watch me a heads up of what was happening in the real world while we deviants were bickering at each other over the firing of jark, which none of us even understand.
