Be Tolerant! ...But What Does That Mean?
Oxford English Dictionary:
Tolerance noun
The ability or willingness to tolerate the existence of opinions or behaviour that one dislikes or disagrees with.
Modern-Day Liberals:
Tolerance noun
The act of censoring ideas that one disagrees with.
Yes, it's that time of year once again. The time when carols are sung, pageants are put on, and leftists grossly misuse words as they wage war on freedom of religion by claiming that references to God and Christ are evil. The excuses they use? Tolerance. Not everybody believes in God, so Christians must "tolerate" others' disbelief by not putting on plays of A Christmas Carol because Tiny Tim utters the word "God" on a single occasion at the end of the play. Christians must "tolerate" others' disbelief by having lawsuits filed against them for setting a cross on top of their Christmas trees.
Hold the phone, is anybody aware of the actual definition of tolerance? Tolerance is allowing Christians to put on plays

The Wound of the Womb
While this message is something very personalized and perhaps inflammatory, I feel I have to share it with the folks here on deviantART.
Now, it's no secret that there's a lot of sexually inappropriate and fetish-fueled art on here. I'm not singling anyone out in particular, there just is and it's been worsening over time. Much art has become more grotesque, twisted and desperate, like people are seeking the next level of perversion, and the next after that.
Pray for these people, because they are trapped in themselves and their desires. Be cautious when they say they draw clearly sexual or visceral art "for fun," because it may be arousing for them and that's why they're drawing it in the first place. The more they keep drawing the same debauched thing, the more likely such is the case.
Our society says that all forms of arousal are just fine, when in fact all but the union between a husband and wife lies underneath the umbrella of sexual immorality. "You have heard it wa

God Loves LGBT People, And So Do Christians

God loves you. And so do Christians.
It's remarkable that this would even need to be said, but a quick internet search will reveal that most people who identify as LGBT don't feel loved, especially not by Christians.
A whole swath of books have been published in the last ten years to explain why people under the age of 30 have increasingly negative views toward Christians. Along with being "hypocrites", "judgemental", and "too political", the primary way Christians are increasingly perceived is "anti-homosexual". Even among young Christians, that final label was the first criticism that came to their mind about their own faith. The simple fact is that even non-LGBT people don't think Christians love LGBT people.
While it is true that some people who identify as Christian do hate LGBT people, most Christians do not.
To understand this, first you must realize that Christians are people too, just like gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender people.

God's Love Letter to You

You are no accident. You are wanted and loved.

The Christmas Birth of Jesus Christ

The Gospel of Matthew tells us that Jesus Christ was born in the final years of the tyrant known as Herod the Great. He tells us that when Jesus was born, Herod panicked and had all of the baby boys in Bethlehem killed. Fortunately, the Holy Family was warned by an angel of the LORD in a dream and escaped to Egypt, remaining there until Herod had died. They didn't have to stay long, however.

Setting Aside a Common Mistake

For just over a hundred years, the question of when Herod the Great died has been dominated by a proposal by the German scholar, Emil Schurer. He suggested that Herod died in 4 BC and this view took off in scholarly circles, but in recent decades, it's been challenged and the arguments for this position are exceptionally weak. So, when did Herod actually die?

The Length of Herod's Reign

Here is how the Jewish historian Josephus describes the timing of Herod's death:

"So Herod, having survived the slaughter of his son, Antipater, five days earlier, died, having reigned thirty-four years since he had caused Antigonus to be slain and obtained his kingdom, but thirty-seven years since he had been made king by the Romans."

In this place, Josephus dates Herod's death by three events:
1) He died five days after the execution of his son, Antipater.

2)He reigned for thirty-four years after he "obtained his kingdom (conquered Jerusalem and had its Hasmonean king, Antigonus, killed)."

3) His reign lasted thirty-seven years after "he had been made king by the Romans, which means he was named king 37 years before his death and conquered the kingdom he was to rule 3 years after that.

The death of Antipater isn't a particularly helpful clue, but the two ways of reckoning the length of Herod's reign are. First, though, we need to answer one question.

How Is Josephus Counting Years?

Kings don't tend to come into office on New Year's Day, so they often serve a partial year before the next calendar year begins regardless of which calendar is used. They also don't typically die on the last day of the year, so they also serve a partial year at the end of their reigns. This creates complications for historians because ancient authors sometimes count these additional partial years (especially the one at the beginning of the reign) as a full year. Alternatively, they simply ignore the calendar year and treat the time that a king came into office as a kind of birthday and reckon his reign in years from that point. What scheme was Josephus using? Advocates of the idea that Herod died in 4 BC argue that he was named king in 40 BC. To square that with a 37-year reign ending in 4 BC, they must count the partial year at the beginning of his reign and the part year at the end of it as full years, as that's the only way the math will work out. The problem is that this is not how Josephus would have reckoned the years. Biblical chronology scholar Andrew E. Steinmann comments:

"There is no evidence for this inclusive way of reckoning the partial years and every other reign in this period, including those of the Jewish high priests, are reckoned non-inclusively by Josephus."

In other words, Josephus does not count the partial first year when dating reigns in this period. Knowing that, what would we make of Josephus's two ways of dating Herod's reign?

Herod Appointed King

Josephus gave an impossible date (one that did not exist) for Herod's appointment as king. He said that it was in the 184th Olympiad, which ended in mid-year of 40 BC and that it was in the consulship of Calvinus and Pollio, which began in late 40 and extended into 39. Those can't both be correct, but one of them could be on its own. Which one, though? The evidence points to 39 BC, because we have another source on this— the Roman historians Appian and Dio Cassius. Appian wrote a history of the Roman civil wars in which he discusses the appointment of Herod in the midst of other events. By comparing this set of events to how they are dated in Dio Cassius's Roman History, it can be shown that the events in question, including the appointment of Herod, took place in 39 BC. Given how Josephus dates reigns in this period, he would not have counted Herod's partial first year in 39 BC but would have started his count with 38 BC. Count 37 years forward from that and you have 1 BC.

Herod Conquers Jerusalem

In his writings, Josephus gives contradictory dating information for Herod's conquest of Jerusalem. Some of the dating information he provides points to 37 BC and some points to 36 BC. Josephus said Herod died 34 years after the event and bearing in mind that he wasn't counting partial first years, that would put Herod's death either in 2 BC (if he conquered Jerusalem in 37) or in 1 BC (if he conquered the city in 36). There are various ways to try to resolve which year it was, but some are rather complex. At least one, however, is quite straightforward.

Herod's Lunar Eclipse

Also in his writings, Josephus said that Herod died between a lunar eclipse and Passover. While there was a partial lunar eclipse before Passover in 4 BC, there was a total lunar eclipse before Passover in 1 BC. Further, the lunar eclipse in 1 BC better fits the situation Josephus describes. Since 4 BC is outside the range indicated above and since the 1 BC lunar eclipse fits the situation better, that lets us decide between 2 BC and 1 BC in favor of the latter. There was no lunar eclipse in 2 BC, pointing us toward 1 BC. Putting together the pieces above, we have:

● Reason to think Herod died in either 2 or 1 BC based on the amount of time he served after conquering Jerusalem.

● Reason to think Herod died in 1 BC based on the amount of time he served after being appointed king by the Romans.

● Reason to confirm that Herod died in 1 BC because of the lunar eclipse that occurred before Passover.

More specifically, he would have died between January 10, 1 BC (the date of the lunar eclipse) and April 11, 1 BC (the date of Passover) and because sources indicate that Jesus was born in 2 BC, Herod would have died in early 1 BC between January and April because the Holy Family was commanded by God to escape to Egypt before this occurred since Herod sought to murder the threat to his reign (Matthew 2:13-18), we can place the birth of our Lord in December of 2 BC with somewhat certainty.

This coincides with the date on which we celebrate Christmas despite all of the opinions otherwise.

Hi! My name is Kristen Danielle Carrier and I was born and raised in a small country town. As such, my heroes generally wear cowboy hats (except for two; one of which wore a crown of thorns and the other being someone that I'm convinced has invisible angel wings). I am from deep south Louisiana and will soon be going back to college at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary to get a degree in Christian Ministry with an emphasis in Women's Ministry. I will also be attending Delgado Community College to earn my certificates in the various Adobe graphic design programs and to earn associate's degrees in homeschool education and culinary arts. During my free time, I play video games, write fiction and/or fan-fiction novels, swim for leisure and for mermaid performance training, shop, and manage an ocean advocacy page as my environmentalist alter ego, Mermaid Celestia, on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. I am straight edge and have never had a cigarette, an alcoholic beverage, or a non-prescription drug in my life save for one tiny sip of wine during the Holy Communion at church when I was little (and before I knew better than to drink it). I'm 30 years old and my birthday is Valentine's Day.

I would like to make a note about the art you see on this account. Many of the graphics were made a very long time ago (when I was in my teens and just starting to practice graphic design) and I cannot for the life of me recall whose stock I used for most of them because there were so many pieces and because I naïvely did not write it down. I am working on finding the owners of the pieces I used, but I have not found them all yet. So, if you see your stock in any of my graphics and it is not listed in the credit section of my artist's comments, I humbly request that you please note me and let me know so that I may add the proper credit immediately. Now, speaking of giving credit where it is due, my gallery CSS was made by CypherVisor, caybeach made my journal CSS, RoslynnSommers made my icon, and Lill-Devil-Melii made my custom box background, but all of them have slight modifications done by myself.

To my brothers and sisters in Christ all across deviantART:

I’m sure you have at least one person that you'd love to dismiss or defame because you disagree with them and if so, you should take a moment to recognize that this person is still someone Jesus loves just as much as He loves you and He died for them, as well. His sacrifice wasn’t for select sinners. It was for us ALL and as a Christian, your job is not to judge someone because they don't have the same beliefs as you do. If a Christian acts like a pompous jerk, they shouldn't be surprised if people aren't keen on joining the Jesus train. God loves everyone regardless of what sins they commit and Christians should reflect this image of truth and love, not judgment and pride. So, break out those love glasses and see the world through HIS eyes.

Be done with players and nice "Christian" boys. Wait for a Godly man. Don't settle. If you're following Christ, then you're not about that life, so join hands and demand that the standard be raised across the board. You are the daughters of God and you are grown enough to know that you will get the treatment that you expect from men. Having high standards attracts men who have high standards for themselves. This applies to the single guys as well in the opposite respect.

The concept is simple. Maintain it in humble servitude to Him.

Bible Questions Poll: Question #8

What is the difference between Protestant Christianity and Catholicism?

To begin this answer, I can provide some simple insight by defining the word "Protestant" for everyone. By definition, the word "protestant," when written with a lowercase P, means "someone who protests." Therefore, a Protestant (with a capital P this time) is a Christian that disagrees with or protests what is recorded in official Catholic doctrine, which the Pope has been given the authority to amend. Protestant Christianity did not always exist, as the Roman Catholic Church was for centuries considered the world's foremost authority on God's Word. All of the world's Bibles were written in either their original languages (Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek) or in the language of the Romans, which was Latin. Those who would study the Word but did not speak the four languages listed were expected to take a professor or priest's word for what it said. In this way, the Vatican, which was until as late as 1870 also a political entity with its own army, could remain in control. This all changed when a man named William Tyndale arrived on the scene.

William Tyndale was born in 1494 in Gloucestershire, England, and he was a great many things, including a scholar, a theologian, a polyglot, and above all else, a devoted follower of Jesus. The story of how he would change history begins during his college years. While studying theology at Oxford, he became increasingly irate over the fact that he was not permitted to study the Bible, systematically, for himself. However, after Oxford, he moved on to Cambridge, where a Greek scholar name Erasmus had, a short time earlier, published a New Testament in Greek. Tyndale, being fluent in Greek and seven other languages, procured a copy and began to devour the texts of Scripture. Illuminated by the truths within the Word, it became clear to him that that many official doctrines and practices of the Roman Catholic Church were, in fact, contradicting the Bible. This did not sit well with him and he began to speak up. One clergyman who was upset about Tyndale speaking against the Pope was noted to have said "We would be better without God's laws than the Pope's," to which Tyndale replied "I defy the Pope and all of his laws and if God should spare my life long enough, I will cause the boy who drives the plow  to the know the Scriptures better than you do!"

This promise would become the driving passion of Tyndale's life— to see the Word of God translated into ordinary English words so that ordinary English-speaking people could, for the first time, read it for themselves. Now, because of his outspokenness against the Pope, things began to become difficult for Tyndale in England, so he sailed across the English Channel and settled in Germany. It was there that he devoted himself entirely to translating the New Testament from Greek into English. He finished in 1525 and his brand new English-language New Testament was published in 1526. Two important things to note about Tyndale's translation are:

1) He worked directly from the Greek, not from the Roman Catholic Church's Latin translation. In striving to be as true as possible to the original text, Tyndale's translation used some words and phrases which different from the Church's accepted version and threatened its corporate social monopoly by emphasizing each person's ability and need to deal directly with God without the need for church rituals, priests, and popes acting as necessary intermediaries (the need for intermediaries is something that Catholic doctrine still dictates today).

2) It would be printed on a revolutionary new machine called the printing press, which was beginning to change the world in Tyndale's day as much as the internet changed the world of information sharing in ours. The printing press would allow God's Word to be printed at speeds and in quantities that were previously unthinkable.

Thousands and thousands of English-language Bibles were smuggled into Scotland and England, where they were outlawed under penalty of death as the Church attempted to begin damage control. Despite this great threat, however, Tyndale's English Bible was a massive bestseller and resulted in English-speaking Christians reading the whole Bible for themselves in their own language for the very first time. Then, the Catholic Church declared Tyndale a "heretic" (a Roman Catholic word for anyone who defies the Church/Pope's official doctrine) and dispatched spies after him. They were far too late, however, as the Protestant Reformation of Christianity was well underway. Tyndale then began the task of translating the Old Testament, the majority of which he completed before he, like Jesus, was betrayed by a close friend and handed over to the Church authorities. In 1536, William Tyndale was tried and condemned for heresy, brought to a public place, tied to a stake, and strangled to death. After he succumbed to the strangulation, his body was torched at the stake, but his final words before his death still ring in the halls of history today.

"LORD, open the king of England's eyes!"

These final words were a prayer that God would answer. Only two years after his execution, King Henry VIII ordered production of an English Bible called "The Great Bible," the majority of which was Tyndale's translation. It is difficult to grasp the breadth of the impact that Tyndale had on the English-speaking world. His Bible changed the entire language and many of the words and phrases we still use today came directly from him. His translation was so good that roughly 84% of the New Testament and 76% of the Old Testament in today's King James Version are his words. Many other modern translations are also heavily influenced by Tyndale's work.

Most modern Catholics believe that the aforementioned intermediaries are necessary in order to reach God, but the Bible does not dictate that. The belief that intercessors are required to get a person's prayers to God comes from a misinterpretation of 1 Timothy 2:1-4, which states:

"I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth."

Here, "intercession" means to pray for someone else. When you pray for your friend, you are interceding on their behalf. When Catholicism teaches people to pray to saints, they are, in reality, praying to human beings who were sinners in life and died sinners. Did they live great lives? Yes, they did. Were they great heroes for Christianity? Yes, they were. Did God use them in incredible, miraculous ways? Yes, He did. Were they they authors of our faith? No, they were not. Christ alone is the author and finisher of our faith. When He died on the cross, He reconciled all of humankind to God, opening the path to Heaven and making it possible for us to pray directly to God and confess our sins to Him instead of confessing them to a priest or praying to a saint. While the Bible does tell us to confess our sins to one another and to pray for each other, Protestants know that while it is good to tell others of our sins, no man on Earth has the ability or the authority to forgive or absolve us of them. Only God can do that and that is why we take our prayers directly to Him.

Bible Questions Poll: Question #7

Thu Sep 7, 2017, 6:32 PM

What do Christians mean when they say they have been "born again?"

To begin this particular response, I think it is important that I refer to Jesus' own words when He described being born again to Nicodemus in John 3. I will then elaborate.

(JOHN 3:1-8)

Now there was a Pharisee— a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi (Hebrew for ‘teacher’), we know that You are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs You are doing if God were not with Him.”

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”

“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”

Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit
gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

What Jesus means when He says "born of the Spirit" or "born again" is that when a person becomes a Christian and accepts Jesus as the Lord of their life, their past offenses are covered over with His sacrifice. "Born again" is essentially a metaphor for having the innocence we possessed as infants restored to us. When we are forgiven, God actually forgets about the sin we repented of. No human will ever stop being a sinner, but thanks to Christ's sacrifice on the cross, we can be absolved of our sins through genuine repentance to God. Jesus was not guilty of our sins, but the punishment for them went to Him on our behalf. Humans are not righteous by nature, but when we accept Christ as our Lord, we accept a gift from Him. He gives us His righteousness as if it had always been on ours.
This is called the "Great Exchange." We are "born again" when we first accept this gift from Him. I will cover more about this process and the Great Exchange in Question #9.

Bible Questions Poll: Question #6

What is Biblical submission (in marriage) and why do Christian women

allow themselves to be treated as lesser beings than their husbands?

Before I begin this answer, I want to note that the format for this  question's response will be slightly different than the ones in the past. In this one, I use full Bible verses in the body of the text instead of just as footnotes. Since this is the case, you will see my superscript numbers(#) in both my writing and in the Bible verses I used. When you see a superscript number in my personal writing, it will correspond to a Bible verse in the footnotes. When you see a superscript number inside an actual Bible passage, it will correspond to my explanation of Biblical language into more modern English. That said, let's begin!

To answer this question properly, we need to begin by illustrating the etymology of the word "submit." This modern English word originated with the Latin roots of sub-, which means "under" and mittere, which means "send" or "put." When combined, we arrive at the Latin word submittere, which means "to put under." Looking at the word this way, we can see why it has a negative connotation in modern English. In our language, the word "submit" or "submission" means to be subject to the authority or power of someone else in such a way that is usually deemed mandatory or obligatory. We submit to the authorities every time we obey the speed limit. We submit to the laws of the our nations every time we file our taxes (at least honestly). If we sign a contract, we are submitting to the conditions stated in the contract and if we fail to live up to those requirements, we can do ourselves harm either criminally, in a civil lawsuit, or financially. In modern English, to submit or be submissive is to be obedient to some requirement or authority and is the very act of being under that authority or control of someone or something. Because of this definition, it is therefore generally assumed in today's feminist-rich society that in order for one spouse to submit, the other must subdue. It is widely believed that the husband in a Christian marriage is allowed to sit and do nothing while barking orders at his wife, who is of less importance than him. This is, however, not the case. Christians do not  believe and the Bible does not teach that women are lesser beings. The biblical idea of submitting or submission is quite a bit different than what was stated above. The Bible illustrates that males were the first to be created (1) and that females were created from a part of Adam (2) as lifelong companions for the males. (3) Males and females are equals in God's eyes and Adam and Eve were the first married couple. God created marriage and gave each spouse a specific job assignment in order to ensure that the marriage remains healthy. I will go into these assignments next, but before I do, please look at the example below to see society's definition of submission, which is not Biblical.

This is NOT Christian Marriage by LoveRunsRed
© Adam Ford

For my illustration on the different assignments given to men and women, I first have to describe the heavenly ordained differences between them. Men and women differ in all of their ways— not just by their anatomy. Even their needs and desires and the way they are "physiologically programed," if you will, to function in day to day life are different. In fact, their minds are so different that most arguments in a marriage start because the wife cannot see or understand things from the husband's point of view and vice versa. The way men and women communicate to one another is sometimes as different as an French speaker trying to listen and understand as someone near them speaks in Italian. For the purposes of this illustration, however, let's say that men see and hear things in the color blue and women in the color pink. For example:

Bullet; Pink SHE (PINK) SAYS: "We have to dress formally tomorrow tonight and I have absolutely nothing to wear."

Bullet; Blue HE (BLUE) THINKS: "She must not have any formal clothes that are clean and she's upset.  Perhaps I can surprise her by getting them dry-cleaned for her."

Bullet; Pink SHE (PINK) REALLY MEANS: "I want to dress up differently and I don't have any clothes that are new  to wear for such a special event.

There is nothing wrong with the woman's statement and especially nothing wrong with what the husband thought the wife meant and the sweet surprise he wanted to do for her. Neither spouse's interpretation is greater than the other's. This description was meant to illustrate that men and woman simply understand the same things differently. There is a reason for this. Think of the human body as a computer that God has personally programmed according to each of the two genders. Let's say that men are run by OSX and women are run by Windows. When a male hears a female speak, he is naturally going to interpret her words the same way he interprets anything else he hears— in the male way because he is male. The same is true in the opposite respect. When a woman hears a man speak, she is going to interpret his words in a womanly way because she is a woman. It's the same thing as a Mac not being able to receive a file from Windows without it first being converted and vice versa. A lot of marital problems arise from misinterpreted words that escalate into arguments. So, God created Biblical submission to solve that issue. (4) For marriage, He set forth some commandments that were specific to each spouse. We'll go over the requirements commanded of men first so that everyone can see what a price the man pays in order to have the privilege and responsibility of being the leader of the family unit. The actual verses will cover the basics and then I will go into more depth about them in the footnotes for those who are unfamiliar with the language of the Bible. We'll start in Chapter 5 of  the book of Ephesians.

"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church (5) and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the Word (6) and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body just as Christ does the church— for we are members of His body." (7)

From this verse, we can determine that the husband in a marriage has a great responsibility set in front of him as he follows Biblical instructions to be the head of his household. These are for him to take care of her needs as much as he takes care of his own basic needs or, in other words, be her protector. He is also required to give himself up for her or, in other words, be ready and willing to die for her should such a situation ever arise. If he and his wife ever found themselves in a dangerous situation where they are told "it's one or the other," he is meant to volunteer to give up his life to save hers. When we look at things this way, they become much less of an assumed "doormat" situation for the woman, don't they? That brings me to the second part of Ephesians 5, which comes right before the passage I quoted above, and also to a separate verse in a different book that applies to both spouses.

"Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, His body, of which He is the Savior. Now, as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything."

(1 PETER 3:1-7)

"Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves. They submitted themselves to their own husbands, like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her lord. (8) You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear. Husbands, in the same way, be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker (9) partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers."

Now, let me ask you this. If you had a man who truly only wanted what was best for you, did his best to make all of his decisions with you in mind first, and was willing to die for you, wouldn't you think that he deserved your respect and deserved to have you listen to his heartfelt advice? I know I do and this is why it is important to note that no matter what the connotation for "submit" is in modern English, it meant something so much different when the Bible was written. Current Christian marriages function in the way of the husband giving his wife unconditional love and the wife giving her husband the unconditional respect he deserves for being willing to and for being given the responsibility to die for her. While unconditional love— to know that she is loved even when she messes up— is what activates a woman's heart, unconditional respect— to know he is always respected for how hard he is trying to do right and for the man he is trying to become even though he messes up sometimes— is what activates a man's heart. Sometimes, it is hard for a wife to show respect and reverence for her husband when he is doing an action that she doesn't appreciate. To this issue, there is a simple fix. The wife would then simply ask herself if she would trust her husband to protect her or, if the couple already has children, if she would trust her husband with the kids. The answer to both of those questions is "yes" at least 95% of the time. This enables the wife to respect and revere her husband for the man she knows he is inside and to trust and obey his advice regardless of whether or not his actions are perfect all the time (and they won't be, as he is human, too).(10)

This IS Christian Marriage by LoveRunsRed
© Adam Ford

Finally, it is extremely important to note that the submission assignment given to women does not mean that they have to stay in abusive relationships and continue to try to show respect. While attempts to reconcile are always the best choice in any marriage, sometimes people become different over time and if the husband becomes verbally, mentally, sexually, or physically abusive and the wife has a reason to fear for her own safety, she can separate from her husband. The Word of God would never command a woman to stay in a place where she is being harmed. This, while rarer, also applies to husbands who are being abused by their wives.

Pixel Rose Bullet - Pink  BIBLE REFERENCES AND NOTES  Pixel Rose Bullet - Pink

"Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and the man became a living creature."

(Genesis 2:7 ESV)

Then the man said, "This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called "woman" because she was taken out of "man." Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife and they shall become one flesh."

(Genesis 2:23-24 ESV)

The Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

(Genesis 2:18 NIV)

And so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled."

(Titus 2:4-5 ESV)

Here, the "church" that Christ gave Himself up (died) for refers to the entire collective population of those who believe in Him. Christ gave Himself over to die on the cross for ALL of us, Christians or not, but in this verse, “church” refers to Christ’s followers.

Washing her with water through the Word" represents the way Christians are cleansed from their sin by Christ’s sacrifice on the cross and how we subsequently get baptized.

We are all members of His body" represents that the "church" mentioned in footnote #4 is also collectively referred to as "the Body of Christ." To make it more clear, you can think of it as "the body of people who belong to Christ."

In this verse, "lord," written in lowercase, refers to Sarah regarding Abraham as her leader.

Here, "the weaker partner" means "not as physically strong" as a man.

A more in-depth study about this Biblical concept and a model for practicing it can be found in the book entitled “Love and Respect” by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs, Christian author and minister.

Bible Questions Poll: Question #5

Thu Aug 24, 2017, 7:24 PM

If no evil can be in God's presence, then who is the devil

and why does he even exist in the first place?

Ah... the devil, huh? You may have heard him being referred to by many names. Some of these include the prince of darkness, Satan, the evil one, the enemy, and Lucifer. The names Satan and Lucifer have become synonymous when referring to this evil being, but in actuality, the meaning of the two names are quite the opposite. Before I go into that, though, let's back up a bit.

Before the creation of the universe and the world in Genesis 1, there existed (and still exists) a realm which we all know of today as Heaven. God is eternal and He therefore existed before our world (or else He would not have been able to create it). In Heaven with God were Jesus and an abundance of angels that God had created in much the same way He created us. Like humans, angels were not created to be little robotic-like servants with no individual ability to think for themselves. If you desired love, what good would it be to create something that was already programmed to love you? You would want someone to choose to love you on their own. So, God gave the angels free will. That is how God created us(1) and the angels were no different. With our free will, we have the ability to sin if we choose and so did the angels. Now, these angels were all beautiful and lovely to behold, but there was one angel whose beauty far outweighed the others. He was a high and exalted angel. His countenance, like those of the other angels, was mild and expressive of happiness. His forehead was high and broad, showing a powerful intellect. His form was perfect and his bearing noble and majestic. A special light beamed in his countenance and shone around him more brighter and more beautifully than around the other angels. He was considered next in honor only to Jesus and his name was... LUCIFER.  Are you surprised? A lot of first time learners of this subject are. The name Lucifer means "bearer of light" or "morning star" and this name referred to his position as the highest ranking and most splendid angel of all. Then, everything changed.

The great Creator, our LORD God, assembled the heavenly host around the throne in order that He might in the presence of all of the angels confer special honor upon His Son. The Son was seated on the throne with the Father, and the heavenly throng of holy angels was gathered around them. The Father then made known that it was ordained by Himself that Christ, His Son, should be equal with Himself so that wherever the presence of His Son was, it was as if it was His own presence. The word of the Son was to be obeyed as readily as the word of the Father. He had His Son invested with authority to command the heavenly host and His Son was especially to work in union with Himself in the anticipated creation of the Earth and every living thing that should exist upon the Earth. His Son would carry out His will and His purposes, but would do nothing of Himself alone.(2) The Father's will would be fulfilled in Him.(3)

Lucifer was envious and jealous of Jesus Christ. When all the angels bowed to Jesus to acknowledge His supremacy and high authority and rightful rule, Lucifer bowed with them, though his heart was filled with envy and hatred. Christ had been taken into the special counsel of God in regard to His plans while Lucifer was unacquainted with them. He did not understand and neither was he permitted to know the purposes of God, but Christ was acknowledged sovereign of Heaven His power and authority to be the same as that of God Himself. Lucifer thought that he was himself a favorite in Heaven among the angels. He had been highly exalted, but this did not call forth from him gratitude and praise to his Creator. Instead, he aspired to the height of God Himself. He gloried in his loftiness. He knew that he was honored by the angels. He had been near the great Creator and the ceaseless beams of glorious light enshrouding the eternal God had shone upon him. He thought how angels had obeyed his command with pleasurable alacrity. Were not his garments light and beautiful? Why should Christ be honored before himself?

He left the immediate presence of the Father dissatisfied, prideful, and filled with envy against Jesus Christ. Concealing his real purposes, he assembled the angelic host. He introduced his subject, which was himself. As one aggrieved, he related the preference God had given Jesus to the neglect of himself. He told them that henceforth all the sweet liberty the angels had enjoyed was at an end. For had not a ruler been appointed over them to whom they must henceforth yield servile honor? He stated to them that he had called them together to assure them that he would no longer submit to this "invasion of his rights and theirs," that never again would he bow down to Christ (a costly mistake),(4) and that he would take the honor upon himself which he believed should have been conferred upon him. He stated to the angels that he would be the commander of all who would submit to follow him and obey his voice.

Angels that were loyal and true sought to reconcile this mighty, rebellious angel to the will of his Creator. They justified the act of God in conferring honor upon Christ and with forcible reasoning, sought to convince Lucifer that no less honor was his now than before the Father had proclaimed the honor which He had conferred upon His Son. They clearly set forth that Christ was the Son of God, existing with Him before the angels were created, and that He had ever stood at the right hand of God and His mild, loving authority had not heretofore been questioned. They insisted that He had given no commands but those that were joy for the heavenly host to execute. They urged that Christ's receiving special honor from the Father, in the presence of the angels, did not detract from the honor that Lucifer had already received. The angels wept. They anxiously sought to move him to renounce his wicked design and yield submission to their Creator, for all had heretofore been peace and harmony and what reason was there for this dissenting, rebellious voice?

Lucifer refused to listen and then he turned from the loyal and true angels, denouncing them as slaves. These angels, true to God, stood in amazement as they saw that Lucifer was successful in his effort to incite rebellion. He promised them a new and better government than they then had, in which all would be freedom. Great numbers of angels signified their purpose to accept him as their leader and chief commander. As he saw his advances were met with success, he flattered himself that he should yet have all the angels on his side and that he would then be equal with God Himself and his voice of authority would be heard commanding the entire host of heaven. The loyal angels then hastened speedily to the Son of God and acquainted Him with what was taking place among the others. They found the Father in conference with His beloved Son to determine the means by which, for the best good of the loyal angels, the assumed authority of Lucifer could be forever put down. When called before God, Lucifer doubled down on his rebellion and refusal to obey Christ and was subsequently renamed SATAN, which means "adversary." Then, because God will not allow sin to enter His realm, He cast Satan from Heaven along with all of the angels who had joined his cause in what is now known as the Fall from Grace.(5) Those rebellious, fallen angels are now known as demons.

From this tale of rebellion, we can see that God did not create an evil being who was evil from the beginning. God did not create our enemy. God created a splendid and beautiful angel who chose to abuse his free will to become rebellious, envious, prideful, and evil. Since the moment he was expelled from Heaven, Satan has been bent on revenge and that is why he disguised himself as a serpent in the Garden of Eden and tempted Eve just enough to introduce sin into the world, throwing a monkey wrench in God's perfect plan for His creation. However, God cannot be defeated or worked around and so, He devised a plan to save mankind from the sins they had been infected with. Atonement from sin requires an offering, so God sent His only Son to pay a debt that He did not owe because we had a debt that we could not pay. Once we repent and accept Jesus as our only Savior, our debt for our sins is marked in bright red ink by a stamp that says "PAID IN FULL."

"You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love."

(Galatians 5:13 NIV)

"I can do nothing on My own. I judge as God tells Me. Therefore, My judgment is just because I carry out the will of the One who sent Me, not My own will."

(John 5:30 NLT)

"For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.”

(John 6:40 NASB)

"Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall."

(Proverbs 16:18 KJV)

The passage for this note is very long, so I have found it on Bible Gateway at this link.

Those boys and coach were trapped in that cave for 18 days. Rain was expected at many points during the rescue, but it never came. For those entire 18 days, it was dry. Then, when the last person was rescued, it started to storm. God is good.
If God was fair, there would be no beautiful story of Christ dying on the cross. If God was fair, He never would have shed His blood for us. If God was fair, we would have gotten what we deserved. Thank goodness that God isn't fair.

Something has occurred to me. There is no such thing as "sexy" any more. For sexy to exist, SOMETHING must be considered risqué and nothing is these days.

Most women of today are not women and are most certainly not ladies. They are simply female at best, having shed everything that makes them special in an effort to be totally equal with men. The Bible tells us that women already have an equal inherent value to men when they are born, but today's society has prostituted itself to the ideals of "anything you can do, I can do, too," and sacrificed the idea of a man being able to say "my, you look lovely today," on the false altar of "don't be a misogynist pervert."

It is so disheartening to know that women of today cannot see that they were not created to do everything a man can do. They were created to do everything a man CAN'T do and that is what makes women so beautiful to their men in the first place. A man should be able to look at his wife and say "Man, I love her. I could never do what she does for our family," but sadly, females of today think they must purchase love with sex. It's not true. Any "love" that compromises a woman's purity and self-respect isn't love at all.

You see, younger people, long before Kim Kardashian posted nude selfies on the internet, there were classy and modest women who somehow managed to accomplish their biggest dreams, raise their children into outstanding adults, AND look absolutely smoldering in the eyes of their men WITHOUT taking their dresses off or designing said dresses to be so revealing that they might as well not be wearing anything to start with. How can one be a fashion icon if they're not wearing anything?

Venture back in time with me because before trashy, soft porn pretended to be 1950s pin-up, there was such a thing as a woman who could be powerful, influential, AND sexy. Ladies, your bodies are temples, not visitor's centers. In a world full of Kardashians, be a Lucy.

So, Let's Start Acting Like It

Reaching out your hand is a great deal more effective than pointing your finger.

This is Mel Gibson talking to the actor who played Jesus in the movie The Passion of the Christ. Mel was the director of that movie. I'm sure he is giving him advice on what to do in a scene or something, but it honestly makes me think something totally different. Just imagine sitting next to Jesus like this and talking to Him about how hard your life is or asking Him to take the pain away because you can't stand it. You're doing this while you look right at Him, bloody and beaten. He looks that way because He made the ultimate sacrifice— for you. Even after that, He still loves you. He wants us to talk to Him. He wants to help us. He loves us. He died on that cross for us so that we could be forgiven. When we talk to Him, we can't see Him sitting next to us like this, but He is surely there and He listens to us just like this.

God has signed His artwork.

"For in Him all things were created— things in Heaven and on Earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him. He is before all things and in Him all things hold together."

Hi, everyone! I love so much to be a voice for Jesus on dA and to be here for people to approach in order to learn about my Lord, to ask questions regarding faith in general, to request prayer, or to request Christian counsel. The most effective way for me to draw people to my page is, of course, my art, so I've set this donation widget up. If you would like to, you can donate a few points to help me purchase premium stock. I give these!

My Policy Regarding Comments

Because of the very prominent display of my Christian faith on my profile, I tend to get a decent amount of traffic (nothing like 'famous' deviants, but a good deal) and it has therefore become necessary to set a few guidelines for commenting on my page. I do often get genuine, polite questions about faith and the Bible as well as sincere requests for advice, prayer, and Christian counsel and these questions are the most important ones that I will ever answer. I try to check in with deviantART several times per day to get to these questions and requests and I need to be able to recognize them immediately, so I have therefore set three very simple rules about commenting on my page. These rules also apply to noting me and they are as follows.

● Everyone on deviantART is welcome on my profile. My profile's comment section is always open to people of all faiths or lack thereof. This means that if you believe differently than I do in any way either by having faith in a different religion, by being atheistic or agnostic, or simply having a different belief as to the way Christianity should be practiced, you are still welcome here if you'd like to receive kind and genuine counsel or have serious Bible and belief questions. I discriminate against NO ONE and I would also like to specifically note that I also welcome members of the LGBT community with open arms. I say this not to single LGBT out, but rather to convey that you'll find no judgment here.

● Please kindly inform me of your intentions right away when you comment. What I mean by this is that if you have a need, a question, or a prayer request, please place that information into your first comment rather than allowing the comment to seem like idle chit-chat. For example, since I am so focused on answering vital questions, a comment saying "Hi! How are you? May I ask a question/for prayer about *insert subject here,* please?" will be answered as quickly as possible whereas a comment that tries to get a conversation going before asking the question such as "Hi! I haven’t commented to you in a while. How have you been?" may end up getting ignored or pushed aside because it does not immediately allow me to recognize that there is a need. Note that follow-up questions asked after my answering your first one are NOT idle chit-chat and I will respond to you in replies until I have addressed your need to your absolute satisfaction.

● PLEASE DO NOT TROLL. This is that icky rule that I only mention out of necessity because some people are rude. Everyone is welcome here no matter what their beliefs are, so if all you can think of to comment with is something nasty directed towards my faith and feelings and/or the faith and feelings of another commenter on my page, kindly see yourself out and don’t let the door hit you when you leave. Things that are considered trolling/disrespectful on my page are taking the LORD’s name in vain on purpose, using profanity, being in any way vulgar, praising the devil, and attacking me or other people here. I also do not appreciate spam. Each cruel trolling comment of any kind as well as actual spam will be reported as such and the commenter blocked. I will also respond by asking all of my watchers to pray for each troll by way of posting a status about their need.

Thank you for your consideration and God bless.
