Decoding Daily Deviations is the series that aims to unlock the secrets of what it took to create these magnificent artworks and motivate others to work towards similar recognition. Each week we will present an interview with one artist who has recently received a DD and have them share the details on that specific piece, relating to their creative process, techniques, and narrative inspirations. If you've ever wanted to know more about a beloved artwork and the talented skills applied to it, this is the series to keep track of!"

Share with readers the details of how this piece came into being. Did you have a clear story idea/inspiration from the beginning?

At the beginning it was just a sketch of sci-fi speeders. It was made really quickly and inspired by Star Wars vehicle designs. I am actually a huge fan of Star Wars; it was my favorite movie for a long time before I started to draw, and it still remains one of my biggest inspirations."

“Incoming” has a beautiful atmosphere with vivid colours. Can you outline how the painting took shape and the specific decisions made to achieve your vision?

A few months later I found the sketches on my computer. I chose one of them, pushed it a little bit further and decided to make a 3D model of it. At that time I explored a new tool -- Zbrush -- and I used Daz studio for the posing.

After the model was ready, I decided to do an art piece with my "engineering marvel". I did the side view illustration, then I decided to find some other angle and to do one more piece. I watched shots of Tatooine sunset and it was perfect! So I did almost the same with a bit of improvisation. I took the most basic composition, backlight from 2 suns (Binary solar systems always looks cool :)). And this is how "Incoming" was born!"

Did you encounter any creative challenges when working on the piece? If so, how did you tackle them? Is there anything you would do differently now if you could?

While I worked on the model I encountered a lot of challenges. The biggest one was my desire to constantly change designs, going deeper into the construction. So at that time I didn't even think about making illustration, all I wanted to do was just a speeder design. If I were to do it now I would probably make everything simpler; I would care more about basic shapes and not the details. By the way, this is one of the most common issues in the pipelines of artists without big working experience -- spending time on non-important stuff."

What does this DD feature represent or mean to you at this stage of your artistic development? What can your watchers look forward to next?

I have been using DeviantArt for 2 years but I only started to publish my works not long ago. It was really nice surprise when I found out that one of my works was featured as a DD."

Bonus question: Can you cite a memorable reaction to this piece in the comments at DA?

I enjoyed getting all the feedback in comments. Some of them were very useful, some were just a great motivation for future works."
