No bikini-warrior by Loulin No bikini-warrior by Loulin
December 2010

Yep, exactly what the title says. :XD:

If I could blame one person for inspiring me to create this, I’d choose :icondeepwoodian: and his “heavy metal” girls. ;) Shame on you for influencing me!

A nice little exercise all around after having a serious serious dry spell during November and December (work, not feeling well, other daily stuff that’s constantly getting in the way, etc). The first sketches however developed way earlier this fall during boring periods at work.

Mechanical pencil 0.5 and 0.7 mm. Slightly larger than A4 size. Minor touch-ups in PS (because scanned pieces never looks like they do in reality.

Yes it would, wouldn't it? :D

An enormous "thank you" for the 3 month Premius Membership. That was so incredibly kind of you! It really brightened a bad day, that's for sure.

No bikini-clad warrior indeed! This piece is incredible. I love the samuraish looking armor and blades. Did you have a particular race of warriors in mind, or is this amazonian all from your mind's eye? I also really dig the flourish in the background. Looks partly like a wave and partly like the old fashion banners in old maps & woodcuts. :)

I didn't have anything particular in mind, no. I tried not to look at different costumes or armours while working with it so I wouldn't be too "sullied" by someome elses design. Just tried to come up with someting by myself, which then surprisingly turned rather asian; you're not the first to notice that.

The torn banner in the background was a last minute idea to make the background a little less boring. Glad you liked the drawing. It's still a personal favourite of mine. :)

I'm always in awe of people who take the time to draw detailed clothes/armour/background. I never have the patience for it. This is very good, and YES, practical warrior gear!

Patience is a blessing and when it comes to art I have bucketloads of it. :giggle: (Unfortunately it's lacking in other areas)

Glad you liked the piece. Thank you very much. :)

I love it, especially for the title and how she's rendered. I will never understand how you can be running around with your vital areas exposed to all incoming arrows and sword strikes.

Well, I understand WHY they're drawn that way, but come on! :giggle:

Well... got to have fun with the titles as well as the images. :D I find the idea of a hard-as-steel female warrior very amusing and attractive but the clothing in that particular imagery hasn't always been on the practical side. So let's take a moment and cover ourself up a bit, eh? ;)

Thanks for swinging by - glad you liked it.

:blushes: Well... I kind of used myself as a reference and then thought: why not use my appearance as well while I'm at it? (With some alterations of course) Who doesn't want to be a cool-looking warrior? :D

And thanks for the :+fav: and the feature. Glad you liked it.

You're welcome Louise, it's a great idea,
I've done it myself once, though it was only a face portrait that I'm sure you'll remember [link]
Anyway, it's beautiful and I loved it!

:w00t!:

I humbly(?) take all responsible for luring you to draw "girls with metal gear". This is a great start Louise. Now you only need to move on by adding a heavier armor to each future piece. :D

It is also good to know that I (or some of my usual subjects) could inspire you. What comes to the armor here I get some sort of "orient" feeling from it. Chinese or something similar. I don't know if that was your intention. There definitely aren't any dragon decorations in it but still the composition of the armor and those swords give me that impression.

And what about the heroine? A self-portrait of a sort? Louise from another time and place. ;)

Excellent use of your pencil skills again.

Hehe... We'll see if the theme and the armour progresses with time. :) Interesting thought about the oriental thouches , I wasn't actually aware of them myself. The subconcious was definitely at the steering wheel there, not me. But I suppose you could be right. And here I was thinking I'd try to be a bit original ;)

Yeah... *sqirms embarassingly* I used myself as a reference (along with some alterations of course). It was inevitable as I couldn't find any other good reference material. My doppelgänger (dubbelgångare) from another time and place, like you say. :D

Glad you liked it. Thank you so much.

That design is original, you don't have to worry that. It just gives me a bit of an oriental feeling. It's hard to explain exactly why but there it is.

No need to "squirm" Louise. You pass as a heroine with flying colors.
(Far, far better than I ever could. :XD:)

Maybe it's the little round shaped ends in the metal that gives it the oriental flare, and the fact that the swords doesn't have those typical medieveal hilts (or blades for that matter).. Oh well, it's a nice look all round no matter where the influence may have come from :D

"You pass as a heroine with flying colors. (Far, far better than I ever could.)"
Thank you, how sweet of you. I've always wanted to be the warrior, not the princess in need. :XD: But you never now, you might pass as a fierce swordsman yourself. It's you who are in charge of the pen you know ;)

(Unless you are satisfied with being "Panu the passionate poet" whose poems very well might be passionate but maybe not always appreciated ;) )

Hehe, somehow I always see myself more as a parodic character than a dashing, handsome hero, when I try to place myself to a fantasy world. Maybe one reason is that as I am very near-sighted, I would be a totally "blind" hero. (very few fantasy worlds have invented glasses). I have many times thought that I should draw a picture or a comic related to that thing but so far have not had enough inspiration to do so.

So I think I will settle to be "Panu the poet" and perform my "talents" in the "Inn of Squealing piglet". (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday; entrance fee 5 silvers) :XD:

Right then... mr Poet. Entertaining the guests it is. Hehe... We're all blind here. :D Though I try to think of the glasses as being the only "body-part" that you can take off and change if you want. That's got to count for something. ;)

Jag blir alltid grymt imponerad av detaljerna i dina blyertsteckningar. När jag ger mig på nått sånt här så smetar jag ut allt så in-utav-helv**e.

Hihi.... gillar detaljarbete :giggle:

Det är himla lätt att råka komma emot och smeta ut något så jag har lärt mig att vara väldigt medveten om var/hur jag lägger händer och armar när jag håller på. Och så använder jag alltid några pappersark som skydd också.

Kul att du gillade den. :D

Seems like it was well worth the long wait. :XD: Glad you liked it, I had fun drawing it.

A lot of things got in the way these past two months, which was pretty tiresome and annoying. But hopefully it won't be as long before I upload again :D

My Christmas was fine, thank you. A bit stressful but on the whole not a total catastrophy.
