Summer lost it's sting

This dragonfly was made for the Summer Lovin Contest [link] held by JewelryMetalMakers [link]

This contest got me thinking back to summers in Canada on the prairies where I grew up (I currently reside in Australia). After 7 or 8 months of winter, there is no feeling so welcome as the warm sun of summer. And then the mosquitoes come out. Not just a few, but huge clouds of them, all trying to get a little taste of your yummy blood. In flies the dragonfly, mortal enemy of tiny annoying blood sucking pests, zipping around eating it's fill..... And saving summer.

This piece is completely hand fabricated from over 60 separate pieces of metal. The metals used are primarily copper and brass with a sterling silver disc in it's belly. The two doors open and close on hinges and the propeller on the tail spins. Wingspan is 11.5 cm

As part of =SilverInkblot's Found Poetry: Titles as Art project, I've used the title of this lovely deviation in a poem here:

How do you make something like this, I will love to learn :D

Wow, pretty hard to answer that question in a few sentences:) I do have a website [link] where I intend to show some of the techniques and tools I use in my jewelry making. I'm happy to help out if you have specific questions about a certain part or process! I love learning new things too, and it's great when people can share their knowledge.

Mmm.. good question. Hard to know for sure, but probably around 30-40 hours. I was doing it in the midst of other things, so I didn't track it very well.

I mean I loved these and this comment is made for the reason why I didn't comment in the first place! I'm glad more people are seeing your work.

This summer the dragonflies are insane here in Saskatchewan. You look above you and there are at LEAST a dozen right above your head, darting around and hunting the mosquitoes. It's incredible.

Ah, Saskatchewan. I grew up in Saskatoon. Good place to grow up. Just the winter is pretty harsh. Breeds great people though.
