Literature Text

I have listened to tons of artists/bands and there has always been a artist./band in basically every music genre that I have found to be likable. There have also been several times where I didn't like a band too much.

Now, even though I didn't like those bands, I was still willing to admit that they probably had some skill and talent, it's just that they weren't my taste. Even in bands, whose music I don't enjoy that much, I often find SOMETHING likable about them. Often, I'll admit that they have a decent guitar player, or a decent singer.

In fact, sometimes even if I absolutely hate the singer's voice, I can still get into the band's music if they have good guitars. Or if their guitars aren't too good, I'll like their singer's voice. Basically, one really great aspect of a band can make me enjoy their music even if there are horrible aspects to them as well.

There has NEVER been a artist/band that I have ever listened to that I would use the term "sucks" to describe...until Rammstein.

1. Guitars

If you have ever listened to their guitars in their songs, you'll find almost nothing except tons of power chords and simple rhythms. Now, a lot of bands I know do this as well, but the problem with Rammstein is that they only use about 4 different notes in each of their songs.

Listen to Feuer Frei, for example. You know that guitar riff that you hear at about 25 seconds into the song? You'll constantly hear it being played for the rest of the song. It's the same two second riff being repeated 100 times and you hear absolutely nothing else! This is the problem with most of their songs. They take a two second riff and just repeat it 100 times until the song ends. They just repeat 4 notes in most of their songs over and over again.

Another thing that they like to do is use tons of sustained whole notes. Listen to Reise, Reise, for example. Not only do they repeat a two second riff over and over again, but listen to the chorus of the song. What do you hear? Just a whole ton of loud, whole notes. Or how about Ohne Dich? The entire song is just basically simple whole notes.

Basically, the problem with their guitars is that they are way too predictable and repetitive. If their not playing the same 4 notes over and over again, they're usually playing whole notes of the same note again and again. What's even worse is that many of their songs have their guitars extremely loud and heavy.

Yes, predictable, repetitive guitars, are common in many other bands as well. So are loud and heavy guitars. Repetitive guitars are quite common in certain genres of music such as Punk. However, even they aren't as repetitive as Rammstein's, and their riffs usually last for more than just two seconds AND they use more notes than Rammstein does. Loud and heavy guitars are also quite common in many heavy metal bands, because they usually make them loud and heavy so the one who is listening can focus on their guitars. However, Rammstein's combining of these two is a bad idea; the loud, heavy guitars cause me to focus on their repetitiveness. Repetitiveness bores me, but when you something gets very LOUD and repetitive, it becomes annoying. Generally, that is how I would describe Rammstein's guitars: annoying.

I honestly don't even know why they need a rhythm guitar and lead guitar and a bass. It's not as if their guitar parts are complex enough to actually need that many. Many bands such as Metallica have rhythm, lead, and bass guitars because there music is complex is enough that it requires them. They should just get rid of their lead guitar in my opinion, since 99% of everything their guitars play IS just extremely simple and repetitive rhythms.

2. Vocals

Regarding what I said before, there are many bands that do have repetitive and predictable guitars. In some cases, they can make up for it by playing guitar solos, or by having a really nice singer. Rammstein, unfortunately, has neither.

I seriously have no idea how people can say that they have good vocals. In basically all of their songs, they don't even sing for the majority of them! Most of their singing is just doing an annoying, sometimes monotone, growling voice like they do in Mein Teil and Du Hast, or just random shouting like they do in Feuer Frei.

They often will actually sing in the choruses of their songs though. However, this is just personal opinion, but some of their choruses sound way too similar. Reise Reise and Amerika chorus, for example. It seems that even their singing has very little variation, just like their guitars.

I also don't see how people can say their music has great lyrics. Many of them are unoriginal and nothing special. They bash on love in Amour, so does many other emotional songs. They take a cheap shot at the USA with Amerika, so does basically every other political song such as American Idiot by Green Day. Some of their lyrics are also, guess what, repetitive as well; Ich Will, Du Hast, and Feuer Frei are all said for about half of the lyrics in their entire respective songs. Some don't even make any sense at, and makes me doubt if they even know what they are talking about.

3. Keyboards, Synthesizers

This is probably the most bearable aspect about this band. However, they also can get repetitive, like the guitars do.

4. Uniformity

All of the above factors contribute to this. I just think that almost all of their songs sound way too similar. Repetitive guitars, simple rhythms, low growly talking, and many others listed above, are common factors in most of their songs. There's really no point in listening to many of their songs, since their all so closely similar that it makes me go "Hey, didn't I already hear this?"

The point is, Rammstein has almost no skill or talent whatsoever and should just stop writing more repetitive and annoying songs.
This is just what I think of Rammstein. They have got to be the only band I have ever listened to in my life that I am actually willing to describe with the word "sucks." Basically, the worst, most overrated band I've ever heard in my life.

Sorry to any Rammstein fans out there who feel personally offended by this. It's completely alright with me if somebody decides that they like their music. However, I'll just laugh in your face if you try and tell me that their music is "good," "talented," "skilled," etc.

I love Rammstein and I think they are good, talented, and skilled. At least to me. But I accept your opinion, after all not everything will be liked.
Also some of their music sounds the same, but at sometimes a bit different.
