Storm Hawks - Master Cyclonis

Meet Master Cyclonis, the sorcerous overlord of the Cyclonian Empire and the main villain of the series. Like most evil rulers, she's highly intelligent, power hungry, and is intolerant of failure from her subordinates. She's an expert with all things crystal related and is almost always seen in her lab experimenting with them. She has a rivalry with Storm Hawk Piper and can also use the Binding. Her right hand man and most trusted follower is the Dark Ace. Though outwardly cold, there have been occasions throughout the series that suggests she might not be as evil as been lead to believe. Is she just a sad, lonely little girl? We may never know...

*takes a deep long breath*

Oh dear god, I'd be happy if I never had to draw her again. Out of all the characters I've drawn, she's been the most problematic.

Before I go on, I'm so sorry it took me this long to get her up, and for not being around Deviant Art for a while. Since 2011 ended, I've been trying to make a dent in the accumulating video game pile, but I buy them faster than I can beat them. Haven't been in much of a artsy mood, but I'm beginning to get back in the swing of things, hopefully for a while.

Anywho, Cyclonis here. I actually had a drawing of her done a long time ago, but it was so awful that I just couldn't use it. Having spent so much time drawing a not-so-great picture, I lost the urge to draw her again for a while. And when I finally tried again, I wasn't happy with the result and redrew her AGAIN. I don't know why it took me so freaking long. She was more annoying and tedious than Repton (even though he was actually kinda fun). I hadn't intended to draw her staff, but I had a hard time thinking up poses for her without it. That god forsaken staff... I screwed up big time on it. The mane was a load of work, too. And I just couldn't get her to look evil enough, and even though I reminded myself repeatedly not to forget her mole, I did anyway (got it in Photoshop), and her head is too big and OH MY GOD I GOT SO SICK OF HER. About halfway though highlighting, I pretty much gave up and opted to get her done tonight (was planning on getting her up tommorrow).

I don't know why she gave me as many problems as she did. Looking back, I see a thousand different ways drawing her could've gone smoother, but I guess that's what being an artist is about. Maybe it's because she's not my absolute favorite character, but I am glad she turned out decent, at least. I did a few things differently with her, as I do with all of them. Since I ended up drawing her staff, I learned when comparing this pic to the other SH characters that I've never actually had a definitive light source when drawing any of them. The crystal in Cyclonis's staff is the main source of illumination in this pic, so that was new. There are a lot of places that need shading still, but I couldn't care long enough to bother with them. Hope it doen't disappoint you guys too much.

Because of crap going down in my Photoshop files, I can no longer use the black swirly title thing, so the last two pics will probably be the same as this one. Aerrow is the next to come, but I'm not making any promises to get him up quickly, as I have a lot of other stuff I'd like to do. Or maybe he'll be up sooner then expected. ONLY TIME WILL TELL.

I really wanted to check you guys' messages today, but alas. It will have to wait, as I have to get up at 3:00 am. Night night.
