I contacted the General Manager of my hosting company, MidPhase, and let him know how I'd been treated and that I was thinking of going elsewhere. He went above and beyond my expectations, let me know it was a very rare occurrence and that they were implementing safeguards to prevent it from happening again. He made me feel like a customer again, instead of a noisy afterthought.
I feel like hugging the world again!
My boss suggested sending an email, and in the state I was in, I wasn't really going to. I was miserable and wallowing in my own self-pity, and trying to figure out what to do next. I'm really glad I decided to send the email, simply because I was compensated quite suitably and my faith in a service I've used for years has been restored. Inadvertantly, the faith in my aptitude regarding choices has also been restored (which was the source of all that self-pity).

Thank you, MidPhase, for making me feel like a customer again.

So, please standby while I work on getting artkitty back up :)
For now, you can admire my nefarious tongue :P

Anyone, especially a business, who has a system "crash" or think they lost some data, should immediately turn off the equipment and pull the hard drives, and perform data recovery. The data isn't lost until it is overwritten/reformatted several times. I've recovered data from hard drives that have been reformatted/overwritten as many as 3 times (that's why the DOD likes theirs done 7 to 15 times upon "erasing" ).
Hope your restoration goes easy on you!

well I recovered really old versions of the website. I kinda wanted to find a new image gallery script anyway, since the old one was annoying to work with. With more than 5 images the thumbnailer would timeout. I found a cool firefox addon that would refresh the page every 60 seconds, so I just walked away :P
hope to find a better one though. my host provided something called "gallery", but I have no idea if I can configure it to work with the rest of my site. I way hacked the old gallery script, so I suppose I'll be doing the same to this one.

Ah, hacking the code, you're on your way then :D

now I'm toying with the idea of a massive paw print, or really cute little ones with dripping ink running everywhere.
I remember a friend and I had a site creation service ages ago (when everybody was doing it) called kitty ink. probably still have the flash version around here somewhere, which is what he did. I did the same site in notepad (non-flash) and I liked mine better :P anyway, it had pawprints running everywhere! so cute!

When I was using MSWindows, I used NoteTabLight (their free version), was way better text/html editor than MS' notepad. You might give it a try. [link]

I've got it on here already, and actually used it ages ago. I agree, it's very useful.
I like the editor inside dreamweaver, too -- it's all colorful, dependent on the type of code.

You're already way ahead of me. I'll shut up now :giggle:
