the phantom blot by Lordstevie the phantom blot by Lordstevie
My no:1 favorite disney comic male villian, an evil super genius and also a rather good figther.

Though i loath the version of him in house of mouse, where they turned him from a former spy, into a living blot of ink.

I love the comics where they make a sort of bond villian out of him.

I love how many versions of him there are out there. One of my personal favorites is the version of him that they were going to use in epic mickey too bad they didn't though.

One thing I loved about the Phantom Blot- he's got enough credentials to really make him a monster- a criminal mastermind, specializes in hypnosis, inventing, and escape-artistry.

Though recently, the living blot of ink bit's been augmented into a living incarnation of chaos borderlining the demonic- probably moreso than Chernabog. I like the PB in both cases- he may be forgotten by most folks, but when he emerges, you know things are about to get nasty....

Awesome, I loved this guy when I was a kid and still read the swedish Donald Duck magasine.
I still think that he was the best darn villaine that disney made for the Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse universe.

Took a while to get your answer here (over half a year, hehe, so you deserve a long reply). :)

The Phantom Blot is an awesome villain because he is rather smart. In most of of his appearances, he's almost killed Mickey. Often he outsmarts him. The very first story that featured him had Mickey escape deathtraps by literally inches several times. The first time it was a gun rigged to a sleeping cat. Mickey dodged it by rocking his chair so it fell... But then there was a trap door not far from it, which dropped the mouse straight into a barber's chair with a friggin' scythe blade slashing down at his back. He had no chance to dodge that. A slight miscalculation on the Blot's part regarding his victim's size is all that saved Mickey there.

I recall one story where he actually pretended to be a ghost in an old castle-turned-hotel in order to rob everyone there one by one. When he was exposed, he almost murdered Mickey with a battleaxe. Hands-on, no mercy. Pete would have spewed some threats and maybe shot some bullets that always seem to miss, but whenever the Blot shows up, the drama is played up. He doesn't shoot wildly and ineffectually. If he had a gun, he would just fire once, to kill. He's always interrupted, as per Disney standards, but the point is that he seems more sinister and clever than Pete.

In another story, he tricked Mickey into thinking he had a sleep disorder, then he tricked him into thinking his "dream machine" had made him do something horrible in his sleep, THEN he pulled a Matrix and told Mickey that he was dreaming... and "woke him" into another fake dream, just to screw with him. Eventually Mickey realized this and broke out for real, but the plan was a lot other league of supervillain there.

Yet another time: Master plan is to rob a bank. But that's too simple for the blot. So he goes all out, steals some paintings to make Mickey come after him, then ruins the paintings with some crazy paint/ink-eating bacteria and pins the blame on Mickey to make him lose credit with the police. Then he releases the bacteria into the bank, making all the money appear useless. He then plans on driving it all off and fixing it by reversing the process some-friggin-how.

The Blot doesn't just break in, steal and run, like Pete and other villains. He manipulates people on every level before he gets to that point. He doesn't reveal himself to be the culprit before it's technically too late. That's what makes him so interesting. He can pop up at any moment, and you can bet his plan will be rather complicated.

I agree with you, I hated how Phantom Blot was portryed in "Mickey's Mouse Works" and "House of Mouse."

They made him go from a scary villain, to a dull comedic Rainbow Brite villain knock-off.

From others, I like several villains, so I can't say he's the number one in all.

Dude, the Phantom Blot rocks! He's like Mickey's ultimate nemesis, next to Pete.

Too bad Epic Mickey sort of reworks him, though given his initial appearance, I can't blame Warren Spector for wanting to give him a more badass origin. And even still, the game's version of the Phantom Blot is awesome, as well!

This is fantastic. Growing up with the European Disney comics, I can say that you definitely captured the "Doctor Doom of Disney" feel this guy has.

I aggree. European Disney Comics had the best Phantom Blot stories. Yesterday, I was searching for old comics and I read one peculiar Mickey vs PB when they both went to an alternate universe, where the Phantom Blot was the hero of Mouseton and had to team up with Mickey to find his evil counterpart. It was genius! That guy is my favourite Disney comics villain.
And they did a great job with him in Epic Mickey!

I remember him as the most badass villain in Disney universe. He would play his own failure before turning it into victory. I suppose that the only thing that prevented him from succeeding in most of his plans wasn't Mickey Mouse, but... the basic Disney comic rule - "Good wins" :P
