Round two!

I didn't like how the apple looked the first time I did it, and I've been reading up on Photoshop, so I thought I'd take a second shot at this. Utilizing a guide for texture creation, I managed to create the wood grain for the table that the apple is sitting on. I threw in a basic gradient for the background. I made it a bit lighter to complement the dark tone of the wood. While my apparent lack of skill in utilizing texture is painfully apparent in this piece, I'm actually pretty happy with the centerpiece. I opted to remove the line art accompanying the original image, in an effort to capture the image without using lines. I feel that the shading and use of color are a little more expressive this time around, but as always I am open to any advice that anybody can give me!
