Recently I have been a little worried that work will forever be my master. I am self employed and am currently running two businesses. One is more successful than the other but they both are doing ok and they need each other to survive at the moment. In time the plan is that I will have only one business but I have this overlap at the moment that I am trying to manage. It is taking up a lot of my time. Too much I think. In my last couple of journals I have touched on the fragility of ones existence and the temporary nature of life. Through the experiences and hardships being suffered by friends of mine I keep being brought back to the same thought which is that there must be more to life than work. To end my days looking back on a life of toil and work would be the saddest thing. That is how the British Government wants you to think. The only way they measure you is by how much work you do and how much tax you pay. Well I'm looking to measure my life in other ways. In things you can't measure.
I guess happiness is my goal. Don't misunderstand me though, I am not an unhappy guy. Sure I could be happier but I also know I have much to be thankful for. I have times where I lose sight of that as I'm sure we all do. I have more reason to be happy than many people I know and yet I still find myself wanting what I haven't got. (And I don't always even know what that is, I just want more from my life). Well the search for this elusive condition goes on but I fear it is not tangible and is an inner state that you will find yourself in one day and finally feel at peace with both yourself and the world around you. I fear I just have a restless soul that will never be satisfied but I determine to enjoy life as much as I can in the ways that I have found I can. I know I won't be happy every day and I know there are times in every day when I won't be happy but there are times in every day when you can smile and laugh. These are the moments to savor. The rest is just life. I want the magic that makes these little moments. I want more magic in my life. There you have it. Having talked it through with you I end up wanting magic in my my my head. :iconwizardplz: I just need some wizard training then
I just want to say again, this place dA, for all it's failings and faults is still my place of refuge from day to day life. Recently I have met a whole new bunch of new people through other friends or just by chance or through other journals and features. The amount of creativity out there is mind blowing and the enthusiasm of artists to create is inspiring. You all inspire me anyway. One thing I have noticed, not that it matters, is the age range of my friends here spans the generations. Many young people just beginning on their journey and others who have years of creativity and experience to share. It is wonderful. A real slice of artistic life. I take my hat off to all of you. :iconhatsoffplz: You are amazing people and I love you all.

And so I am going away next Saturday for two weeks. I'm going to take my camera to two of my favourite places. The Isle Of Skye and Northumberland. This will be the first two week holiday I have had since I was a kid. In fact I think I only had one of them when I was a kid so it will be only my second one. I am looking forward to it. I am hoping that while I am on Skye some magic comes my way. It feels like the place I should be so I will let it work it's irresistible charms on me. I will be among the mountains of Skye and the ruined castles and coast of Northumberland. I will be back soon enough and I'm sure I will be staying in touch while I'm away.

"He who first met the Highlands swelling blue
Will love each peak that shows a kindred hue,
Hail in each crag a friend's familiar face,
And clasp the mountain in his mind's embrace."     Lord Byron

So, what have I been looking at lately? Well here we go then. Here is a selection from my favourites from the last couple of months. A real cross section from some lovely, talented, enthusiastic and inspiring people. Please enjoy them and if you see something you like please take a moment to let the artist know. I'm sure they would appreciate hearing from you. :D

There is something very wrong with you.
I don't know, but I think you are too
ugly to be by my side.
There is something very wrong with you.
I'm not sure, but I think you are too
stupid to be my friend.
There is something very wrong with you.

Hope you enjoyed your travel dear Lawrence. Thank you for featuring my photo:huggle:
I just will offer you that, go to South America or somewhere you never went before. dont spend your holidays always in England. But sure if you have enough money.
I understand that, it makes us sick when we stay always in our places. if I have enough money I would ike to go to Nepal of China, villages of them.
I dont know why but village people kindness makes me so happy. Maybe cause of their purity.
Or you can start to take portraits, try new things:))
I wish much success in your work life and enjoying time:))
Just a few things came my mind:)

I could not agree more.  I also preach the gospel of balance in life, to my coworkers and customers at every opportunity.  Not being a religious person, I find my peace behind a camera, and in working images to create a vision to share.  It's not about the time we spend, but how we spend the time we have.
Hope you're spending it having a great time!

Oh dear friend. Where do I start?
First...I completely relate to everything you've written. I will always come back to dA no matter its flaws. It is still "home". And I love it that you feel the same way about it. And I also know what it's like to want to be happier but not because you are unhappy. It's a constant desire to improve oneself and also trying to find rest amid the hassles of life. I hope you enjoy your holiday. You sure deserve it.
Thanks for including my photograph. I'm really looking forward to seeing your pictures from the Isle of Skye. Those are always my favorites from your gallery!

i agree in many points of your beautiful feature, dear lawrence. the only thing i can say is, that if you look for happyness, you will not find it. let happyness find every moment of your being. happyness is in all the small, everyday things..a flower, the song of a bird, the blue summersky and the silence of a white winterday. or in the touch of a loving hand...
i really wish you to find the happyness you look for..everytime!

and i know exactly what you mean. right now i'm in this weird state where i don't have school anymore and now i have to decide what to do next, what to study etc. which should be exciting but most of the time it just makes me anxious and sad because i don't know what exactly would make me happy or IF i'm ever gonna be happy with the plans i have in mind and if i'm ever going to be successful and it's fun.
anyway i hope you'll enjoy your holiday! :)

Dear Stony,
Because your photos are beautiful, you are already successful. You have given a mysterious joy to more people than you guess. Remember that the IDEA of happiness is a trick we pull on ourselves. Happiness itself is something that just happens, when it's meant to. You can't plan it, contain it, or control it.
Pursue your goals with everything you've got. You have no choice. But, if you have the soul of an artist, you'll always be discontented, uneasy with the world, and striving desperately for something the world cannot supply, something sublime. That may be your gift -- dissatisfaction that reaches out for sublime beauty, which is something our broken world needs so badly right now.
With every best wish for your continued success & happiness,

Thank you for the feature! I have said the exact words "I want more magic in my life", and completely understand what you're experiencing... I think you put it into words very well. One thing that I have found to be helpful is aiming to remove judgement... I think we've established what makes an experience "magical" (or good/bad) and have ideas in our mind of what that looks like, but when we open to what is without judging or analyzing, the magic in every moment can be revealed. I'm sure your journey will bring many amazing moments to just experience what is with a clear mind and appreciation. Enjoy!!

Such beautiful words Lawrence. And each and every word rings so true in my ear. I know what you speak about and feel it too.
I think you have spoken on behalf of every creative soul.
Restlessness and yearning are an artist's melancholy which never leaves the soul.
But I do hope you find that elusive moment of happiness and peace in Northumberland and Skye
before restlessness seizes again and takes you to scale newer heights. Wish you all the best. And come back with great pictures...:) (Smile) :LongStemRose:

Great journal entry.
Chasing magic is always a worthwhile endeavor- even if it eludes us on occasion, the times we find it are all that more precious. I wish you all the best in your search!

Lovely gallery. I found myself quite enrapt and slightly envious of all the beautiful and unique landscapes.
