Washing my face in the highlands. by LordLJCornellPhotos Washing my face in the highlands. by LordLJCornellPhotos
This is Lochan na h-Achlaise on the edge of Rannoch Moor in the Scottish Highlands. The rain was coming down quite heavily and I was loving it.

Poetical beauty. And composition is very well-executed, as always. Love the colors and land and water asymmetry. Love

Fantastic scenery. I love the subtle details of the lighting and the clouds, I love the ripples on the lake, the little islands. This is gorgeous. I also have to say that I really like the post-processing in this one. I hope you don't mind the criticism but lately I felt like a lot of your photographs had a tad too much contrast so the clouds looked unnaturally dark, almost black. This one is spot on for me though, really good job! :)

Thank you :)
It is a lovely place.
Sorry you haven't enjoyed the processing lately.
Any in particular excluding the one with the wind farm as that was totally deliberate ?

You're welcome :)

Uhm, I'll try to give you a few examples:

Snow on the peaks, clouds in the sky by LordLJCornellPhotos The upper right corner is almost black and so is part of the foreground on the bottom right.

Resting up. by LordLJCornellPhotos The whole upper part is so dark it looks like night sky.

Closing in by LordLJCornellPhotos A medieval clifftop fortress by LordLJCornellPhotos In both of these the low hanging clouds seem too dark, considering there are lots of breaks in the clouds so more light should be reflected back. I might be wrong here though. Especially the first one is gorgeous it's just that my head says there is something unnatural - which doesn't necessarily mean it is, could just be unusual.

Another Fairfax ruin. by LordLJCornellPhotos Again, almost black in the top left corner.

Maybe it's just me. :) Tell me what you think about it.

Ok.
the mountain shot.
i took about thirty shots there as the sky and light was incredible.. It was that dark and I took a rainbow shot where the clouds to the right were really dark and the clouds to the left were very light. It does happen, especially in Scotland and on Skye. I had also been driving around for a long time as it had been raining all day and was raining at this time though not as hard. The skies in Scotland can be amazing with unbelievable mixtures if cloud and the light is also unbelievable especially when there is bad weather.
the boat
this was deliberately exaggerated for this picture. I have got many pictures if this boat in all kinds of light and with all kinds if processing. You may not like this one but you might like one of the others where other people might like this one. That's just personal taste which we all have and is absolutely fine.
the mountains shot and Dunnottar castle shot.......I didn't do much to these at all. I didn't need to. The clouds and light were wonderful. You can have dark and light clouds together. I see it all the time in Scotland.
the bottom one of Helmsley Castle
again this was totally deliberate as I wanted to make this look gothic.

I dont do do much processing in general but when I do it is deliberate. I'm sorry if you don't like these ones as much as the others. I hope I will still make many more images that you do like.
I do thank you for sharing your thoughts with me and for taking the time to do it like thus.

have a lovely Sunday :)

Thank you very much for taking the time and effort to write an answer for every single one of these pictures. Seems like, while some are deliberately processed like that, I'm just not accustomed to some of the other conditions. It was interesting to hear your side of things. I like the notion you addressed the boat picture with. Having pictures for people with all different kind of tastes is a nice approach in my humble opinion.

And don't worry about me not enjoying your images. I honestly love most of them. It's just that, as of late, I felt some disconnection with some of the newer ones. Which is completely fine - as long as you are continuing to deliver stunning pieces like this one. :P No seriously, just do what you feel is right. I'm happy that we could talk freely about this topic. :)
