So near and yet so far by LordLJCornellPhotos So near and yet so far by LordLJCornellPhotos
Time for another shot of the MV Dayspring. Well, it's been a couple of months. You may remember I have become quite fond of this boat on my visits to the Scottish Highlands. This is a slightly different viewpoint showing a bit more of her and also the light catching Ben Nevis in the background.
This boat was left stranded on the shore during a bad storm some time ago. The tide has never been high enough since to re-float the boat so it remains stuck on land rotting away. It is near Corpach, across the water from Fort William in the Scottish Highlands with the mighty Ben Nevis dominating the skyline.
The boat is called the MV (Merchant Vessel) Dayspring and she foundered on Dec 8th 2011.

Here is some of her history

I find it remarkable that this vessel sits on the beach and is a time capsule of history, worthy of a photographer's attention.  If this ship was sitting on U.S. soil, I'm sad to say that it would be ravaged by vandals and likely covered in graffiti by local gangs, thus becoming an eyesore.
