Light patterns by LordLJCornellPhotos Light patterns by LordLJCornellPhotos
I took this rather abstract shot at the Museum Of Scottish Lighthouses at Fraserburgh in Aberdeenshire. It is one of the lighthouse lanterns which was lit and it shows how the light is spread on the wall behind it.

These lenses must have really strained the limits of glassmaking technology when they started to use them.

Yes. The lenses were very well designed as it meant they didn't need a big light :)

A very interesting idea, and subject.
These lenses are amazing....aren't they called Fresnel?
Split Rock Lighthouse, on the North Shore of Superior, has a
giant one!!! But, sadly has long been out of service, due to
the advent of radar!!!!</b>
Tally ho.....

I think it's sad there are no lighthouse men anymore.
Many of the lighthouses are still used but they are automated now.
The foghorns aren't used anymore because of radar.
I do like lighthouses. :)

Yeah...in agreement here. Beacons of the past.
I took plenty pics around the Split Rock Lighthouse,
on Superior's North Shore. Only painted it once, (long ago) and
placed it in a setting further northeast, in Grand Marais.

I really like this. It's different for you, but I enjoy all abstract and surreal work. I love the way the light reflecting looks.
