The edge of the Quiraing in the north of the Isle Of Skye. In the distance you can make out the snow capped mountains of the Scottish mainland.

It has much in common with Iceland. Northern Skye in particular is what Iceland will probably become. Skye is older than Iceland.

I was looking for something explaining geology in Skye, but didn't find what I was looking for (found it was a volcanic place...not a joke :D). The volcanoes are dead in Skie, aren't they ?

Iceland is seated on a hotspot but the ridge is torning appart the island, maybe a part of Iceland could become like Skye in future but I think Iceland (whatever the name it will have...if someone is still here to give a name to the place in billions years ^^;) would stay at the same place due to hotspot producing land by erupting (it cannot move, nor the ridge btw ) :)

Well that's true. If Iceland stays over the hotspot it is likely to remain active.
Hawaii and other places were formed by islands moving off the hotspot and then another island was formed and so on.

The Cuillin mountans on Skye are basically the heart of a dead volcano. They are the magma chamber that was left when the rest of the volcano has eroded away over time.

Whether the world will last long enough to see how Iceland will turn out is another question entirely.

:D

Oh the world surely will be still here...but humans, nothing is sure ;p, one thing we can say surely too, we will not see that :giggle: so let's enjoy Iceland today :happybounce:

Hah...like Alice told Ralph (The Honeymooners), "I call you killer because you slay me." To which Ralph replied, "Well I'm calling Bellevue because you're nuts!"
Bellevue is a hospital here in New York that once housed many of the mentally ill.
