Abandoned by LordLJCornellPhotos Abandoned by LordLJCornellPhotos
This is all that remains of a deserted manse near Loch Cill Chriosd on the Isle Of Skye. On a cold, crisp day with snow on the mountains it is a haunting place to be.

Makes you wonder why. There was a place like this up north and I asked why. One storm caused so much damage they couldn't repair so they quit. Just one storm. The mind boggles, the livlihood all gone overnight. And they are a hardy breed up there too.

I don't really know why it became deserted but if it was related to the marble works then it probably just declined when the works did.

Oh, a photo like this demands so many questions. Skye is not that cold but cold enough and I think many people who live in cold places would think this is a really stupid design of building, And, if this is a manse, where are the houses of the congregation? Were they so flimsy that they have left less trace? Maybe Are tehy just out of shot? Maybe the remains of walls we can see are enclosures of a nearby farm. When was it abandoned? Was it clearances but it looks a bit modern, or was there enough population here until after the war? I suppose that the bits of forest plantation we can see would once have covered teh whole hillside so there would have been enough wood to keep even that house warm. Was the house only ever intended to be temproary if it was built at time of clearances?   Please, I need to know now.
