A retro perspective by LordLJCornellPhotos A retro perspective by LordLJCornellPhotos
You all know how I love to photograph this boat which is stranded on the shore. It is a sad but beautiful sight to me. I have become very attached to this boat. To me it has become a part of the landscape there.

This boat was left stranded on the shore during a bad storm some time ago. The tide has never been high enough since to re-float the boat so it remains stuck on land rotting away. It is near Corpach, across the water from Fort William in the Scottish Highlands with the mighty Ben Nevis dominating the skyline.
The boat is called the MV (Merchant Vessel) Dayspring and she foundered on Dec 8th 2011.

Here is some of her history

Sorry - I went to delete a song I had tacked on the end of the journal --and half the photos disappeared with it
--- was just to tired to redo it ---- sometimes 'Stash' can be maddening :) ...my apologies   - I just deleted it .
I'll try to put it back together soon :)

I hope that the wreck lasts long enough
for even future generations...

I'm not sure how long it will last. Six years so far. It is deteriorating but wrecks can last longer than you think.
I really like it there. It seems part of the landscape to me now :)

The more the boat is ruined, the more it's aesthetic.  Future generations will find themselves their wrecks... I'm looking for some of the sketches I made from this pict
 ( Begun a large canvas  70x110 - based on i-t. ...)

I predict that your large
canvas will be wonderful -
especially from this scene...
... it will be worth any wait...

I have been working on this large painting (70x110) for 10 or 12 hours. I'll certainly finish it. It's a challenge...
Are there some wrecks in San Juan Islands, or....Sidney Island?

I have made a lot of sketches from this admirable wreck, and from the picture ( in a larger distance)  I have been given.  Soon, I'll take my brushes and begin to paint your boat.Hug

I would also love to see any sketches-
its a great subject, between the wreck,
the water, and the other background...

She'd need some serious work done on her before any re-floating...those timbers NEED re-treating at the very least. I agree she makes for good subject material though.

Kind of a shame, that...I love salt-water fishing and being out on the water, so scenes like this always get me in a soft-spot and get me wondering why someone hasn't put the old girl back in the brine where she belongs.
But, nostalgia aside, there's usually a good reason (or a sad one) as to why it's still on the shore...Lack of equipment, finances and whatnot. It's just kind of sad to think someone's livelihood got derailed because
of weather...
